Carpets Floor Mats- Adornments for Your Home
by Rupa Aggarwal AnalystA well-furnished home unveils its occupant’s personality to a great
extent. Carpets play an important role in contributing to the overall
look of the house. They add a rugged charm to your room with their
elegant designs and unique fabrics. However, the historical perspective
of carpets is quite an interesting one.
Some say that its
origin dates back to Neolithic Age (7000 BC) while others account that
it was invented to serve the practical purpose of the rough nomadic
tribes. They were thickly knotted to protect the people from extreme
climatic conditions. Different regions of the world had their own
customised carpets which have evolved over the years. The carpets of
Egypt were woven with wool and were tied with asymmetrical or Ghiordes
knots with motifs like a palmette on the red background of a carpet,
etc. These carpets usually consisted of geometric patterns. Chinese
carpets are one of the famous carpets in the world. Designed with a
beautiful blend of flowers as well as abstract geometrical figures and
curvilinear in nature, the carpets display a distinct and graceful
style. The woven Chinese carpets generally use symbols, which are
inspired from the natural world, ancient local myths, Buddhism, and
Taoism in their designs. These speak much more than mere symbols. One of
the most famous carpets of the world is a Persian carpet. With its
hand-knotted origins, Persian Carpets are best known for their aesthetic
and utility value. Continuing the legacy from ancient times, carpets
are used to keep you warm during winters by barricading the cold waves.
The types of fibers used in Persian carpets are wool, silk and cotton Floor Mats for foundation.
Another
renowned carpet of Indian origin is a Mughal carpet. With respect to
its meticulous floral themes and zoomorphic subjects used in carpet
weaving, these are elegance personified. These carpets generally
represented natural themes like flowering plants, animals and so on. Its
rich colours made of organic materials, is a typical feature of the
Mughal carpets.
Carpets serve a dual purpose of both aesthetic
as well as functional value. India houses a variety of carpets to serve
every purpose. They include hand-knotted carpets, tufted woolen
carpets, pure silk carpets, Persian carpets, Iranian carpets and Kilims.
With respect to hand-knotted carpets, the quality depends upon
tightness of the knot and shortness of pile. More the number of knots,
better the quality. Tufted carpets are made with organic fiber which
acts as a stain resistant, thereby paving way for easy and proper
cleaning. These luxurious carpets are available in a variety of elegant
shades to match your home furnishings. Designed with a high number of
knots per square inch, detailed and fine patterns can find a place
there. These come in different designs which include intricate motifs
and patterns of nature, bird and animal motifs, hunting scenes, or
thematic designs like historical romances. Iranian carpets are made with
no prescribed pattern or sketch, but are generated from the weaver’s
memory. They are usually created for urban and rural areas as per their
size and requirements. The designs are mostly representatives of a
particular region. Kilims are not measured in terms of knots or pile.
They are flat woven carpets made of stretched fibers. These intricately
woven marvels enhance your home’s look to a great extent. With their
long-lasting properties and sturdy fabrics, these serve a superior
value. You can preserve them by regularly vacuuming and once-in-a-while
washing with cold water and dissolved soap to maintain the durability.
