There installed than tapping the plug cables and dropping in the distributor. Gear Engagement step is to receive the distributor, but first make sure you've the supplier gear to go. A cast iron distributor gear will work if you're using a cast camshaft. A throw distributor equipment with a steel camshaft like you use in competitive roller camera software will result in excessive wear. A steel camshaft you're running, it is a wise idea to ensure the distributor has the gear or a brass equipment. In a race motor that is built, a brass distributor equipment should last a complete season of racing.

This resistance might cause wear, since the end of the supplier shaft engages to power it. It's also wise to make sure that the equipment properly participates with the camera equipment, when installing the distributor in the motor. There has to be a little bit of play between the cam and distributor gears. To test this, when the distributor is with the cap place on the rotor and watch whether the distributor shaft can move up and down only a bit. If it does not move, that means the supplier shaft is likely bottomed out on either all the cam equipment or the oil pump driveshaft.

You can adjust this by using spacers between all the supplier collar and all the mounting flange on all the motor. Some distributors may also be ordered together with a moveable collar that is adjustable for height. There are two black cables extending from the distributor, one together with an orange strip and one with a purple stripe. Typically, the ignition does not send power to the spark plug till the trailing edge of the reluctor from the distributor cap leaves the detector. The main difference in width from the back of the reluctor into the feed edge is about 15 degrees at all the distributor.
