Can Security Services Be Outsourced?

by Denny F. My Opinion

It seems an interesting question, but it is one that comes up more often than you might think. In short, yes, you can outsource your security guard services to another company. In fact, you can outsource more than just your guards, as managed security services and contract work are both common within the industry. Let’s look at each of these in a bit more detail to get the full scoop.

Outsourcing Security Guard Services

Most commonly, businesses will outsource just their security guard services. For many buildings, having a single security guard is enough to deter intruders and ensure the safety of the people within. Even for larger locations, it is easy to have multiple guards patrolling the premises throughout the day or evening.

Outsourcing Managed Security Services

For some, guards are just not enough. This is usually when there are several secure areas on the premises that require continuous monitoring. It could also be helpful for remote locations where travel is lengthy or difficult. But what are managed security services?

Typically when we refer to managed security services, we are referring to one company overseeing multiple aspects of a security system. Think about private investigators, parking enforcers, risk assessments and concierge services all being put under the same umbrella, and you will have a fairly good idea of what managed security services can look like. In some cases, businesses also handle the digital aspects of a security system, like cameras and movement sensors.

Outsourcing Contract Work

Sometimes, security services are not on an ongoing basis. Event centres and construction sites are both good examples of contract work that occurs only semi-regularly or just for the duration of a project. However, contract work for security guard services may also mean installing and setting up a commercial security system for a company and leaving them in charge of the operation.

Why Do Companies Outsource Security Services?

Companies can outsource their security services for multiple reasons. In some cases, the company just doesn’t have the time, experience, or resources to get involved with the security industry. Other times, it is better to have qualified professionals performing the security tasks rather than a single individual or someone without appropriate training.

All told, it is best to look at outsourcing security services, much like visiting the mechanic. While we are all technically capable of repairing every part of our vehicle through research and determination, it is often easier to leave it to the professionals who will do the job right the first time. And just like security guard services, we often need a ticketed and licensed professional to do this work legally and within the confines of governmental regulations and policies.

Where to Find Security Services

Finding security services is easy when using tools available on the Internet. For example, a search engine can provide local results with review ratings, location, hours of operation and other helpful information. Directory services like the Yellow Pages and online service providers can also supply relevant information about security companies that you are considering.
