Can Lowering The Stress Get Relief In Your Teeth-Grinding Troubles?

Here’s a situation that many people face:

When they visit a dentist due to some trouble in their teeth, they find chipped teeth, wearing enamel or receding gums as the outcome.

And they are equally surprised when they know that all this is a consequence of grinding of their teeth, knowingly or unknowingly. Scientifically, the trouble is known as bruxism and the dentist suggest stress to be a major cause of this trouble.

Did you know that many human being constantly damage their teeth themselves (though unknowingly) while they sleep?

Yes, this is absolutely true and the trouble known as bruxism could occur in various forms such as:

  • ·       Grinding or teeth
  • ·       Teeth Gritting
  • ·       Teeth Clenching
  • ·       Teeth Gnashing etc.

And according to the dental experts, when all these symptoms occur during the day time, these are mostly due to some physical or mental stress or some pain in the body.

What Happens With Teeth Grinding (Bruxism)?

When you knowingly or unknowingly grind your teeth, you are actually inviting lots of teeth troubles such as:

  • ·       Loosening the gum-grip on the teeth
  • ·       Cracking of Teeth
  • ·       Loss of teeth
  • ·       Losing the teeth enamel which exposes other sensitive layers
  • ·       The gums get receded
  • ·       Painful jaws
  • ·       Painful teeth
  • ·       Headaches

When any or some of these troubles occur, you would need to run to an expert dentist soon.

However, if you wish to prevent these painful teeth and oral issues, you need to schedule regular visits to a dentist, at least once every six months.

What is worse is bruxism is not just limited to stressed working professionals or aged ones. In fact, the trouble could grip the teenagers and pre-school children too. Needless to mention, all such reactions are a result of stress and can worsen the oral health in a very short period of time.

What Do Dentists Recommend?

Whether you report the teeth troubles all yourself or these are detected by the dentists, you can expect the following solutions:

·       TMD Therapies: The dentists may suggest you some sort of therapies since teeth grinding or bruxism is associated with TMD or Temporomandibular joint dysfunction. All such therapies may help you lose stress and offer relief in the oral vicinity.

·       Mouth Guards: Since teeth clenching and grinding could occur while you sleep, dentists recommend mouth guards which keep your teeth apart and prevent issues in them.  

·       Alignment Correction: Bruxism or teeth grinding could also be prevented by aligning the misaligned teeth through surgeries. This is usually done when the major cause of bruxism is detected to be an incorrect teeth alignment.

 

Other Methods To Help Yourself:

In order to avoid stress and thereby clenching of the teeth, you can follow the following tips:

·       Cut down alcohol, tea, sodas and coffee intake which could cause to stained teeth.

·       Never ever chew anything rough that you do not intend eating. For instance, pencils, pens, and nails are not your eatables.

·       Dip a cloth in warm water and hold it against your jaw. This heat therapy would lower the stress and prevent clenching.

And in case of any trouble, do not forget consulting an expert dentist as soon as possible. The sooner you get assistance, the easier and more effortless it is to get rid of the troubles.
