Calling a Doctor At Home: How to Make the Most of a Medical Appointment

by Reena T. Blogger

Calling doctors at home is definitely a better, convenient and smarter choice than visiting the same doctor at the clinic or the hospital. You would get the undivided attention of the home visit doctor. As calling the doctor home is often an expensive choice, you should make the most of this medical appointment.

Here is how you can do it:

Relax

Don’t get anxious or nervous about the doctors at home. They come to help you with your ailments. Be relaxed and think of all those things that you need to discuss with the doctor.

Be Prepared

You might be having several queries and doubts to ask, but when a home doctor is sitting in front of you, you might go blank and nothing might come up in mind. It happens with most of the people, so don’t worry but be prepared for the doctor’s visit. Instead of relying on your memory, make a note of all those queries that you want to talk about. You should also prioritize your questions so that you don’t miss upon the important ones in case the doctor is in a hurry.

Be Honest

The home doctor is here to help you, but he can’t help unless you are honest with him. Tell him about all your medical conditions honestly without feeling embarrassed or shy even if something is uncomfortable to discuss. Lying to your doctor or leaving out details can do more harm as the doctor will start the treatment and prescribe medicines based on the information you share with him.

Tell Your Family History

Many diseases are genetic. It’s important to share your family history with your doctor as it helps in predicting your risk for the disease. If you find any change or any new medical condition cropping up in any of the family members, then too, you should make it a point to tell it to your doctor.

Be Punctual

Just because it’s a home visit doctor, you can’t take him for granted. Be ready to greet him at the scheduled time. In case the doctor gets late by a few minutes due to some unforeseen reason or some emergencies, be respectful and patient. Also, in case you need to cancel the appointment for some reason, make sure to notify him in advance and don’t cancel it at the last moment when he has already started for your home or standing at your door. Being punctual and respectful helps in starting at the right note.

Listen to What Doctor Suggest

After hearing you out, the doctor will suggest some tests, precautions etc. Listen carefully to what he is suggesting. If you have any doubts, clarify them politely. Don’t be demanding. If you feel that he has prescribed too many or too little tests, clarify your doubts politely.

The home visit doctor has come for you exclusively. Sometimes a home visit doctor can also suggest for a home nurse. Make this visit count by keeping in mind all the above-discussed points.
