Caesarean delivery

by Pooja Chauhan Freelance Professional

Caesarean delivery is a surgical technique for the birth of the fetus.

This surgery is performed by an abdominal incision over the uterus in order to out the fetus and placenta, as an alternative to natural delivery.

Types of the Caesarean delivery

There are two basic types of surgery, depending on the type of incision:

1. The traditional incision (upper vertical incision) is done in the center of the abdomen.

2. The lower incision is a smaller and lower than vertical incision. It is the most common today.

Caesarean is also classified as delivery for planned surgeries and emergency surgeries are also classified i.e advanced caesarean operations.

Emergency surgeries are surgeries that have not been planned before, and are often performed due to complications during the delivery process.

Surgery course:

1. The best gynaecologist in sharjah performs cesarean surgery immediately after starting the anesthetic effect. A surgical incision is made in the abdomen, as mentioned above. In most cases, the lower horizontal incision is applied to the abdominal wall.

2. The doctor begins to cut the skin layers and below the skin, until it reaches the muscles of the abdomen and uterine wall.

3. The fetus is released quickly as the umbilical cord is cut and the entire placenta exit.

4. Then the gynaecologist begins sewing the wall of the uterus by solid stitches. Then he sews the abdominal wall and muscles and skin layers.

5. The incision in the skin is closed by metal pins and bandages are placed on it.

This surgery usually takes 30-40 minutes.

Complications for this surgery:

1 - Rupture of the uterus wall:

This is rare as a result of a caesarean delivery.

But the incidence of this is increased in the case of many caesarean deliveries, especially when the natural (vaginal) birth is made after several caesarean deliveries, because of pressure on the uterus resulting from contractions.

2 - Shortness of breath in the fetus:

This phenomenon is relatively rare, and it occurs because the fetal lungs are not emptied of fluid. It is not occur in the natural birth due to the tremendous pressure in the birth canal. Therefore, the pediatrician is present in every caesarean operations.

Treatment after surgery:

It is often preferred that the patient remain in the position of lying down for the first 24 hours after surgery and stop from moving too much. If the patient feels pain in the area of the incision, she can take antalgica.

Pins are removed from the incision after 2-3 days, and the stitches are removed after a week.

If there are no side effects after the surgery, the patient can leave the hospital 48 hours after surgery ends. It is advisable to return to normal physical activity gradually.

Medical conditions that require this type of surgery include:

  • Pregnant women of advanced age
  • Overweight
  • Unborn fetus position in the birth canal ( posterior position)
  • The birth of more than one fetus at the same time
  • (Preeclampsia)
  • Subjugation to Caesarean delivery in the past and others.

Some women prefer to give birth through this surgery to avoid birth pains, to give birth on a specific date or for other reasons. The proportion of this surgery is increasing.
