Business Intelligence Tools, Not a Luxury but Necessity for Companies

by Syntelli S. Marketing
Business intelligence software is extremely significant tool for companies that are focused on modernization of the business. Business intelligence platforms allow companies to fully understand their data and build actionable insights for better and smarter decision making. Data professionals primarily use business intelligence platforms while everyday business professionals use self-service business intelligence tools. Despite businesses emphasizing on leveraging analytics for the past few years, user adoption for business intelligence tools remains very low. Employees who have been in the workforce for many years and have never used a business intelligence tool and have simply continue their jobs in the same way they always have, do not realize its significance. However, companies need to change their employee's mindset if they wish to become completely data-driven.

Business intelligence tools should be commonly used across organizations and to facilitate this they should take the following course-of-action:

Business intelligence tool, a necessity – There was a time when understanding company's data was an additional benefit but today in the age of digital transformation, it has become a necessity and employees need to embrace this tool. There is a common conception among employees that business intelligence tool is only required by data analysts or data scientists but the fact is that employees should dive into data before making any vital decision like forecasting hiring numbers or adjusting a product price. Business leaders need to be provided with substantial proof that the employee's decision will positively change the business. Thus, by requiring data-driven proof, business intelligence user adoption will naturally improve. This will not only encourage employees to use these tools, but even businesses will ultimately benefit be making decisions based on data.

Organize consistent training for employees - There are endless possibilities of the business intelligence tools that means a single on-board training is not enough. Administrators should take training initiatives to teach employees to take full advantage of the software. Having a deep understanding of the tools, employees are more likely to use them and they will also have the understanding to filter data and manipulate the data to discover useful insights to become a data-driven organization.

Highlight Success Stories - To encourage the business intelligence tool adoption among employees organizations can highlight success stories. It creates a strong impression on employees if the company's leader calls out projects that have significant impacts on key performance indicators due to the use of business intelligence tools. To do this companies can create an internal case study explaining  how using business intelligence tool help them to hit their goal.
