Bronx Home Moving Tips: How To Save Money On Supplies & Transportation

by PRC Agency PR

Did you know that moving costs are rising every year? (Shocking, I know! Everything else is getting cheaper so what's up with that??)

Depending on where you live, your moving costs may be increasing by 40% every year - and that's just crazy. People just wanna go from point A to point B; why does everything have to cost an arm and a leg?

Well, that's a complex topic and we don't have time to properly analyze the failures of capitalism. And frankly, that's not what you're here for. You're here 'cause you wanna know how to cut costs without cutting corners too much, right?

Don't worry, Movers.com has all the answers. Just check out their guide “6 Big Ways to Save Money on Your Next Move”; here's the link: https://www.movers.com/moving-guides/top-money-saving-tips-for-your-next-move.html

If you're still with me... first of all, thank you! I must be doing something right if you're still reading. More importantly, I'll give you a few tips in this article, starting with free packing supplies.

Did you know that cardboard boxes can sell for $2 each? That's a lot of money for a lot of boxes you're probably just gonna throw away as soon as you unpack. Unless you have a cat, in which case, you might not be able to get rid of all of them.

But the point is, you don't really have to pay for cardboard boxes because they're kind of everywhere... You can get them for free at your local grocery store, or from a large retailer, or even at your place of work. And just like that you can save dozens of dollars.

Another expense you could remove completely is professional protective padding. Sure bubble wrap is cool - for more than one reason! - but old blankets, sheets, and newspapers will do just fine.

If you're really into the DIY movement, then why not DIY the whole thing? From packing to transportation, you can literally do it all by yourself with help from friends and family. Budget and U-Haul offer competitive rates on truck rentals, but it's even better if you have a friend who has a truck.

If you don't have that friend and you don't want to drive a truck, which is perfectly understandable, you can try the self-service option. Basically, a packing pod or freight services company transports all your stuff, but they don't do any of the loading or unloading. Pro tip: freight services are great for cross-country moves.

And of course, any article on saving money on moving can't be complete without the obvious one: move in the off-season! Makes sense, rates are generally lower between September and June - so why not take advantage of that?

Movers.com has a few other tips I left out, so I do recommend checking out the full article. They also have over 700 moving companies listed on the website, so you can find licensed and insured movers that are right for you. Yes, that includes Bronx movers for apartments with no elevator if that's what you're here for.
