Braided Copper Wires and the Different other Types

by Scoat Parkey developing
Copper is considered to be an ideal metal for manufacturing electrical wires.  This is because of its high conductivity, malleability and ductility. Good quality copper wires with or without insulated coatings are being extensively used in electrical devices that carry high voltage current. In most cases electrical contractors are aware of different types of copper wires to choose. Popular variants include braided copper wire, stranded and solid copper wire and many more. They choose one that proves to be most suitable.

Braided Copper Wire for its Strong Weave

When we speak of a braided wire, we are talking of many fine wire strands working together as one for imparting additional strength and flexibility. Like a braid, thin strands of wire are woven together and not merely attached to one another. This gives rise to a single piece of unbreakable wire which is absolutely tear resistant. Also, these intertwined wires are protected from degrading even when manipulated repeatedly. Solid wires often tend to give way when manipulated endlessly. Also, when you choose braided copper wire, you opt for a much more cost effective choice as compared to other forms of cable like coaxial for instant.

However, understanding the functions or make of these wires is not as simple as it seems. How these braided wires differ from other wire types may not be clearly understood without expert intervention. There could be several complexities involved. This is why it is always advisable to speak to an expert before you can spend an additional amount on selecting the right kind of wiring for your premise. Especially, when you happen to be dealing with a variant which is as precious as long-lasting copper, it is important to be extremely careful.

Stranded and Solid Copper Wire

Well, solid and braided copper wires are two types that are relatively similar with only a handful of notable differences. Solid wire, unlike braided copper wire is a single thick strand of wire made from copper. Stranded one is nothing but a bundle of thin copper strands. These strands are tied or twisted together to form a single one. Stranded wire scores on malleability while solid ones are rigid and could be more prone to damage. Power cords of appliances and mouse cords are often made from stranded wires.

However, when compared to braided copper wires, stranded wires find less favor. This is because; braided wires are unique in their make. The manner in which the wires are intertwined makes it a very tough make. So, if you are looking for dependable wires that would cost slightly more and stand the test of time, braided wires would win hands down over stranded wires.
It is always important to seek expert opinion when choosing copper wires for wiring purposes. Consider seeking complete and comprehensive advice before making a choice. Remember, this is likely to be the choice of a lifetime. So the surer you are about your choices the better it is likely to be. Always consider sticking to certifications as well when making a choice.
