Best places in London to eat out on Easter

by Shivendra Saxena Foodie

The day when Jesus Christ was resurrected, Easter brings immense joy to Christians all over the world. Among the predominant Christian cities, London's celebration is absolutely emphatic. It includes special prayers at Westminster Abbey and St. Paul's Cathedral, Edwin the Easter bunny pleading kids to find his Easter eggs at London Eye, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory-esque atmosphere at Kew Gardens and a lot of other fun activities.

Easter marks the end of Lent, a 40 day period of fasting, abstinence and spiritual transformation and falls on a Sunday. What does that mean? That means the best day of the year for foodies! And they are not disappointed. Lavish lunch(usually a Sunday roast!), baked delicacies, chocolates are usually on the menu for the occasion.

The mornings are spent in Church praying, singing merry melodies, greeting fellow Christians, exchanging gifts and essentially celebrating renewal of life. Those who observe fast during Lent open it with homemade wine. It is followed by the much awaited Easter Sunday Feast, featuring mouth watering hot cross buns and home made chocolate goodies. Cafes in London are preparing special menus and offers to celebrate Christ's coming back to life. For example City Cafe would offer free eggs and treats to decorate them to kids who visit. Haagen Dazs has introduced an ice cream Easter egg with raspberries and hot Belgian dark chocolate sauce. Dunkin' Donuts is all set to launch its PEEPS Donut specially for Easter.

The feast is not only about sweets though. Forty days of abstinence from meat leads to unrestrained consumption on Easter, the reason why many families go out for a meaty Sunday brunch. This Easter, Bingham would prepare hand dived scallops, salt marsh spring lamb and hazelnut marquis. The Restaurant at St. Paul's also has something special for the special day- Norfolk Turkey, apple orchard stuffing, bacon wrapped chipolatas for the brunch and Queen of Puddings for dessert. So prepare yourself to munch in loads of food on Easter. Don't worry about gluttony, it is a day when all of man's sins are forgiven.
