Xian, while being ancient, is a beautiful city to explore. It is home to remarkable tourist attractions. One of those notable tourist destinations is the Giant Wild Goose Pagoda. It is renovated as a Buddhist Pagoda, which is situated in southern Xian. It was built during the reign of Tang dynasty and had five stories initially.

The structure was reconstructed by Empress Wu Zetian and its external brick facade was renovated during the Ming dynasty. The primary function of the pagoda was to hold sutras and figurines of Lord Buddha that were brought to China from India by the Buddhist translator and traveller, Xuanzang. It is located inside the Dacien Temple complex and is easily accessible from the Da Yan Ta station of line three of the Xian metro.

The foremost landmark which visitors will encounter while entering Xian is the ancient City Wall. It envelops the old city in a huge square area. The northern side extends parallel to the railway. Till today, the wall is respected as a milepost, which divides the city into an inner and outer part. It is weighty, tall, long and thick. The South Gate and the North Gate forms the two main entry and exit points to the inner city. The city places itself neatly along the City Wall.

The present City Wall is an enhancement of the old Tang dynasty structure, which took place due to the emperor's wall building initiative. The base of the wall was made up of earth, quick lime and glutinous rice extract, all of them pounded together.

The Drum Tower is located in the heart of Xian. It stands erected above the city centre and renders a splendid view. It derives its name from the huge drum located within the building. The drum is beat at sunset to signify the end of the day. Several large drums hang on the first floor of the Drum Tower.

Each of them is decorated with beautiful, elementary Chinese writing, which symbolizes good fortune. The delightful arrays of drum are only for display and visitors are not allowed to touch any of them. The top of the tower renders a panoramic view of the city.
