Basics of silicone oil
by Lee Dora noneThe most common silicone oil, all organic groups are methyl, called methyl silicone oil. Organic groups may also be used other organic groups instead of part of methyl group, in order to improve certain properties of silicone oil and suitable for a variety of different purposes. Other common groups have hydrogen, ethyl, phenyl, chlorophenyl, trifluoropropyl. In recent years, organic modified silicone oil rapidly developing, there are a number of organically modified silicone oil with special properties.
Dimethicone
is a transparent liquid, non-toxic, non-corrosive, with physical inertia. It also
has excellent cold resistance, heat resistance, oxidation resistance, can be
long-term used in
Silicone
oil are generally colorless (or pale yellow), odorless, non-toxic, non-volatile
liquids. Silicone oil is insoluble in water, methanol, glycol, and ethoxyethanol,
immiscible with benzene, dimethyl ether, methyl ethyl ketone, carbon
tetrachloride or kerosene, slightly soluble in acetone, dioxane, ethanol and
the like. It has a small vapor pressure, high flash point and ignition, lower freezing
point. As the number segments n different, the molecular weight increases, the
viscosity also increases, thus silicone oil can have a variety of different
viscosity, from 0.65 centistokes up to a million centistokes. To obtain a low
viscosity silicone oil, used acid clay as a catalyst, and telomerization at
Silicone oil, according to the chemical structure have dimethyl silicone oil, ethyl silicone oil, phenyl silicone oil, methyl with hydrogen silicone oil, methylphenyl silicone oil, methyl chlorophenyl silicone oil, methyl ethoxy silicone oil, trifluoromethyl propyl silicone oil, methyl vinyl silicone oil, methyl hydroxy silicone oil, ethyl hydrogen silicone oil, hydroxyl hydrogen silicone oil, cyanide silicone oil, etc.; according to the applications have the damping silicone oil, diffusion pump silicone oil, hydraulic oil, insulating oil, heat transfer oil, brake oil and so on.
Silicone oil has excellent heat resistance, electrical insulation property, weather resistance, hydrophobicity, physiologically inert and smaller surface tension, in addition to having a low viscosity-temperature coefficient, high resistance to compression) and some species also have the radiation resistant performance.
