Palace of Tipu Sultan

 

A Bangalore trip gives you the chance to visit one of the lairs of the lion of Mysore. Yes, I am referring to the stunning palace used by Tipu Sultan. Lavishly done up with intricate frescoes and teak pillars, the splendour of this palace dominates the surrounding bustle of the Krishnarajendra City Market. The palace also stands close to quite a few other interesting hot spots such as Venkataraman Temple, Kempegowda’s fort, and Jama Masjid.

 

Lalbagh Botanical Gardens

 

Established by Tipu Sultan’s father, Hyder Ali, in the 18th century, the Lalbagh Botanical Gardens or Red Garden continues to be an indispensable part of one’s Bangalore travel itinerary. These captivating landscaped gardens sprawl across an area of some 96 acres and have played no mean feat in getting Bangalore the sobriquet of ‘the garden city’. The garden is full of globally famous plants and hundreds of years old trees.

 

Bengaluru Palace

 

This is another good place to experience the royal splendour of an old era during your Bangalore trip. Largely modelled on the Windsor Castle, the Bangaluru Palace doubles up as the Wodeyar family’s private residence as well as a tourist attraction. The interiors are lavish and majestic portraits adorn the walls of the huge galleries. The grounds outside are famous for serving as the venue for gala events played out by well known names such as Deep Purple, Iron Maiden, the Rolling Stones, and Aerosmith to name a few.

By road, the distance from Bangalore to Coorg is some 256 km and you can get there by cab in about 5 hours. Coorg makes for a fine place with its sprawling coffee plantations, rolling hills and valleys, verdant jungles of teak, and some lovely trails for trekking. The destination’s timeless appeal has earned it epithets like ‘Kashmir of the South’ and ‘Scotland of India’. Some of the best attractions in Coorg are the cascading Iruppu Falls, Abbi Falls, and the Nisargadhama Forest.

 

A Wayanad Getaway

 

The Bangalore to Wayanad distance is about 277 km by road and it takes some five to six hours to reach the place. The destination emerges as a nature lover’s paradise and does full justice to its name Wayanad or ‘land of paddy fields’. Along with its fabulous landscape, Wayanad also holds a lot of promise for history buffs. The most popular tourist spots include Chembra Peak, Sentinal Rock Waterfalls, and Neelimala Viewpoint. Plenty of buses are available to the destination. In fact, the starting fare for a Bangalore to Wayanad bus is usually about INR 300.
