Baking Tips for Gas Ovens
by Steven Williams Cleaning services specialistMost professional cooks prefer gas ovens mainly, because they provide a faster way to prepare different meals. Gas heat is also known for the higher temperatures and this give you a chance to cook anything in less time. When it comes to home cooking it is more difficult to determine the right temperatures and a few tips will help you for proper cooking. Different ovens have different settings, so it will take you some time to get used to it and to start preparing perfect dishes. Here is how to have more success in the kitchen when cooking with gas ovens.
Temperature
With
gas ovens the amount of heat depends on the gas, so the exact
temperature also depends on the released gas. If you want to be sure
that the temperature is corresponding to the temperature you need, you
can place an oven thermometer on the center of the stove. This will
definitely help you to feel safer and to be sure that your meal will be
not over burned or too rough.
Burned Bottoms
A
known problem of gas ovens is the fact that they produce too much heat
on the bottom and this may cause burnings on the bottom of your cookies
and cakes. One solution to this potential problem is to cook with
insulated baking sheets and pans. As an alternative you can also use
silpat sheets for the same purpose. The bad news is that bottoms will
not get brown even a little.
Uneven Heating
If you have an older gas oven, there is a big chance to experience uneven heating while cooking with it. The easiest solution is to try to clean the burner flame holes. Often they will get clogged with fallen food and grease and this will result in uneven heating. Another solution is to put one layer of ordinary unglazed clay tiles on the bottom rack of the stove. Such tiles can be found in most hardware stores or local home improvement shops. Expert cleaners such as cleaners in Seven Sisters recommend to leave some space at the sides in order not to block the proper air circulation. Just the area below the food should be covered with the tiles.
Using the Baking Setting
If
the oven is preheated, don't forget to use the setting "bake". Modern
gas ovens have the function to provide heat from the top and bottom on
the preheat setting and this helps for the faster heating of the device.
When you turn on the "bake" setting, heat will go only from the bottom
part.
