Our day-to-day life depends upon how we move around and do our daily chores effectively. In Ayurveda, Parkinson disease is known as “kampavata”, where kampa means tremor and vata means to blow or move like the wind. The principle of the Ayurveda is to achieve the balance of all three doshas in the body. This disorder is caused by aggravated vata dosha, which is the presence of aggravated air in the brain. The aggravated air is formed as a result of pure digestion, increased vata dosha in the stomach and then it moves to the brain. Over time, the aggravated air affects the area of the brain that controls involuntary movements which leads to Parkinson.

Signs And Symptoms

Apart from hand tremor, there are several other signs which can help in detecting the disorder such as drop saliva uncontrollably from the mouth, an involuntary quivering movement, and sleepiness or drowsiness most of the time. In Parkinson disease, the voice becomes monotone and expressionless and masked face which many people mistake as depression. In addition to that, festinating gait, rigidity in the body, and reducing blinking also indicate Parkinson disorder.

Although modern science does have medicines for Parkinson, they have some side effects too. However, there is an excellent herbal treatment in Ayurveda for Parkinson without any side effects. Free from chemicals, additives and preservative, ayurvedic remedies can be the best combination for an effective treatment for Parkinson.

Diet to follow

The ayurvedic treatment for Parkinson, one should consume a lot of fluid and fibres like fruits with peel, vegetable, legumes, whole grain bread and cereals avoid constipation. In addition to that, one should avoid coffee, tea, hot liquids and alcohol, since these all encourage dehydration and low blood pressure. An individual suffering from Parkinson should have a diet rich in beta carotenes like asparagus, apricot and pumpkin, vitamins C including berries, broccoli, grapefruit, and vitamin E such as avocado, nuts and sunflower oil. Further, one should consume food low in cholesterol and saturated fat, and avoid white sugar and white rice from his/her diet.
