Atlanta: So Many Activities, So Little Time
by Kevin Smith AuthorThe unofficial "Capital of the South," there
are so many things to do near Atlanta and in town that it really requires some
preparation and planning to make the most of your time. If you’re a history
buff, a sports nut, a golfer, like to hike and bike, or just go someplace
different for a change of pace, you can find it. Read further about what to
consider doing when you have some openings in your schedule.
Awesome Attractions
There is so much to list it's hard to choose, but here
are some worthy places to spend your time:
·
Stone Mountain - a somewhat
controversial homage to the Civil War, it's an attractive theme park along with
a light show offered in the evening that is projected against a carved edifice
on the mountain.
·
Porsche experience - one of
only two such facilities in the US, there is a 1.6-mile track where you can test
your skills driving a Porsche or have a professional take you on a thrill ride.
There is also a simulator lab and exhibits of automobiles to explore.
·
Athens - home to the University
of Georgia, an ultimate college town, with great bars and restaurants. There
are also art museums, a botanical garden, and great antebellum architecture.
·
Dahlonega - located in north
Georgia, Dahlonega is the home of the first gold rush in the US. It has a
delightful downtown area where you can visit the gold museum, along with
pleasant shops and restaurants.
The brief descriptions don't do justice to these
places, so spend more time learning about them online before your visit.
Relaxing Resorts
Whether you live in Atlanta and want a weekend
getaway, or are traveling from a further distance, there are ample resorts to
choose from. You can schedule your vacation to coincide with spring floral
affairs or an entertainment extravaganza. At most locations, you are a modest
ride into town, and instead of ending the day in a hotel room, you could even
end it on a porch overlooking a lake, drink in hand. Morning could start with a
jog on a nature trail. You could then easily drive into Atlanta to visit the
Aquarium or the King Center, take in a Braves game, or all of the above! It's
not hard to find things to do near Atlanta. Rather, it's hard to decide what you
want to do with so many options.
