Answering some of the frequently asked questions about IPTSE examination

In 2018, the Government of India launched a nationwide initiative to foster the spirit of invention and innovation among the youth of the country. Aptly named the Intellectual Property Talent Search Examination, this unique initiative encourages the Indian youth; particularly school and college students to be the torchbearers of ideas that can be executed into inventions. The exam prepares the youth about the importance of intellectual properties like patents, copyrights and trademarks, inspiring them to consider careers in the field of intellectual property (IP) and IP rights. Here are some of the common FAQs pertaining to IPTSE exams.

FAQ 1: What is IPTSE?

The Intellectual Property Examination, also known as IPTSE, is an annual examination launched by the Government of India’s Ministry of Commerce and Industry in association with ASSOCHAM and ERICSSON. The objective of this exam is to create awareness regarding IP rights, copyrights, trademarks, patents, industrial designs and trade secret among the youth in India

FAQ 2: What are the eligibility criteria to appear for this exam?

The IPTSE exam is especially designed for school students from grades IX to XII and undergraduate college students from different streams. Individual school and college student as well as schools and colleges collectively can participate in this test. Students from English and regional medium schools and colleges, be it boys, girls, or co-educational institutions can appear for the exam. All boards including SSC, ICSE, CBSE, open schools, degree colleges and autonomous colleges can participate in the IPR examinations.

FAQ 2: What are the charges for registering for this exam and how I make the payment?

You need to pay Rs.250 to register for the IPTSE. The payment can be made after signing up by visiting the official IPTSE website  and creating your account.

FAQ 4: What is the questionnaire like and what is the duration of the exam?

IPTSE is a single-day, competitive short-duration examination. The exam consists of 36 questions for school students and 48 questions for college student. The test comprises a total of 5 sections. All questions should be answered as per the section-wise, allotted time limit. The test is essentially designed as a MCQ or multiple choice questions style, objective exam. The duration for the test is 45 minutes for school students whereas college students are allotted 60 minutes for the test.

FAQ 5: Are there any special requirements to appear for this exam?

Yes, the IPTSE exam is an online exam. You need to have an internet-enabled device such as a laptop, a desktop computer or a tablet to appear for the exam.

FAQ 6: How can I prepare for the exam?

Preparing for Intellectual Property Talent Search Exams is quite easy. Once you sign up for the exam, you can also sign-up for e-mail communication and alerts through which you can receive notifications regarding course content uploaded on the IPTSE website. You can also sign up for notifications regarding mock tests uploaded on your dashboard at regular intervals. Take as many mock tests as possible as they can help you build you speed and accuracy while appearing for the final exam.

FAQ 7: Since it is a competitive exam, are there any negative markings?

No, there are no negative markings in this exam.

FAQ 8: Can I take a print-out of the course material?

No, the IPTSE exam is a fully online exam and the course material cannot be printed.
