An Insight to the Evolution of Telecom During Different Generations

by Excelacom Inc Best Telecommunication Services

Without realizing it, we have been relying every day on fiber-optic networks. Even when not at home, we utilize fiber-optic networks in our hands. All the praise goes to the evolution of smartphones allowing us to have easy access to the internet, which has brought us a long way. So, let's get a better look at the evolution of Telecom with 5G wireless telecommunication and learn about the role of fiber optic services.

The Commencement of 1G to the Present Day 5G - An Insight to the Journey

The first thing is to develop an understanding of 1G, 2G, 3G, 4G, and 5G. In mobile networks, these are the five different generations. Contradictory to our perspective, mobile networks have been in existence since 1980, and every decade a new generation has been launched. For phone networks, the term 'generation' refers to the specific set of designed standards. With the commencement of every generation, we have seen a rise in the speed of the network.

Across the globe, the commencement of 1G gained a lot of popularity during the 1980s. It was the period when the first commercial cellular network that used analog signals was launched. However, soon many issues with the first generation were detected. Call dropping was another major problem reported during the first generation with terrible voice quality and battery life. Also, the enormous size of the mobile phones was experienced as a significant inconvenience to owners.

With the start of the 1990s, 2G made its commencement. This second generation was designed to use digital signals than previously used analog signals and included a new digital tool for wireless transmission. This is called Global System for Mobile (or GSM), which has undergone several changes over time. The launch had a motto of creating a more secure and reliable solution for better communication. During that time, features like SMS, internal roaming, call hold, conference calls, and many other such features were introduced. Further, the amplified data rate assisted 2G standards in enabling people to send and receive text messages and emails.

It was during the early 2000s when 3G came to light. Well, this is the generation with which masses are very much familiar as it was the time when mobile phones made their reach to almost every hand. This advanced generation enabled people to download videos, search the internet, share photos, play games, and make video calls. Moreover, the use of social media platforms on mobile phones was made possible. With a motto of improving the data capacity services with data transmission keeping up with low-cost agenda, 3G was enabled to support an extensive line of applications.

With the start of the year 2010, 4G was launched with major upgrades made to the previous technology, LTE (or Long-Term Evolution) turned out to be the standard throughout this generation. This enabled the use of higher rates of data and better capabilities for multimedia tasks. Additionally, mobile phones were allowed to proffer an improved rate of data than the previous generation and boast greater capabilities for better multimedia tasks. This generation had faster standard speed along with improved security and quality at a lesser cost.

At present, we have access to 5G networks. This current generation is designed and developed with novel standards that can support the extensive use of the Internet of Things. The agenda behind the release of 5G facilitates fast data speed with declining latency, maintains consistency with the required performance rate, and advances the capacity with reliability. This generation is aimed to proffer integrated experience to the users, being the new generation with significant updates and advancement.

The telecom industry is in a continuous transition phase, and definitely, the 5G era will be paving the way for this transition in another era.
