An Exploration of Numbers through Math tutoring

by Jacob Marsh .

Education is an integral part of humans; a factor that sets us apart from the other living creatures of the world. It is a faithful partner of the progress we enjoy today and a reliable friend in any situation, good or bad. The continuous acquisition of knowledge puts us in the winning side of our everyday battles, and to ensure that you stay in the winning side, you can start with taking school more seriously.

Children that grow up practicing the wrong habits will find it difficult to correct them once they are older. It is the responsibility of the parents and the educators to establish healthy habits and mindsets that will help children excel in their education, specifically in the field of mathematics.

Majority of the students who enter their schools do so with a glum outlook on numbers. They were preconditioned to think that because their parents and their older siblings find math hard to work with, they, too, will undergo a similar fate.

Changing their perspective of math today will aid in their success with all of their school subjects, and henceforth pave the way for a promising future. Beginning early is the key, and beginning with math is the way.

How Do You Accomplish that?

There are dozens of methods that have proven to be effective, but nothing compares to private tutoring. A one-on-one session with a skilled instructor will sharpen the focus of the student, a feat that is nearly impossible to achieve and to maintain in the traditional classroom set up. In a room shared with ten or more children, there will always be strong distractions that will pull their attention from the blackboard and the teacher. The teacher, too, is due to be distracted with the fidgeting of the students, the ticking of the clock, and the taunting of her timetable. No one can fully concentrate on the lessons at hand, which offsets the purpose of schooling. Add the worsening issue of bullying and the declining grades of math students and you will find children who think of education as a secondary concern.

With the right tutor, those worries are lessened to a minimum. Students will be empowered to perform well in their math classes despite the distractions. Tutoring also provides a more intimate interaction with the numbers and the formulas, which help students appreciate it and the good it does to them.

How Do I Choose a Tutor?

Choosing the tutor may be the most crucial stage of this pursuit. The person you hire will determine the impact of the benefits that tutoring will have on your children. Take your time auditioning the applicants and set aside your worries regarding their salary. Money and schedule can be negotiated, but not the future of your children.

Tip # 1 – Set high standards in terms of educational attainment. While it seems okay to hire the high school student that lives two houses away from you, it will be risky since teenagers, regardless if they are straight A students, still have long ways to go. Their priorities change as they pass through their adolescent years. You’ll want someone who is consistent and has already graduated with a college degree in courses that relates to math. The people who fit this criteria would have been exposed to math long enough to be credible to teach it.

Tip # 2 – Set higher standards in terms of personality. No matter how smart a tyrant is, he or she will never be as effective as a kind-hearted and understanding soul. Choose someone who is optimistic, supportive, and strategic in his tutoring methods. Ridiculing children does not motivate them to do better; rather it inspires them to rebel and counteract everything the tutor says.

Tip # 3 – Assist the tutor during the first week. Since no one knows your children better than you do, you are in the position to help the tutor strategize and plan schedules. The first week is critical in setting the atmosphere between the child and the tutor, and in regulating the overall flow of the sessions. You will want to be there to supervise, just to make sure that things are going smoothly.

Tip # 4 – Prepare Plans B and C. In case there are no qualified tutors around or you do not have the budget for it, you can begin by enrolling your children to math classes online. Find math websites that have in-house tutors. Those tutors will usually be available 24/7, whenever the website is accessed. Register for Mathfoundation and start learning math online the easy way.

If you do find a qualified tutor but he or she cannot meet with you personally, you can always settle for online tutoring and access math lessons online. The web is abounding in applications that support any purposes for which webinars will be used. Be as resourceful as can be.
