All You Should Know about Hot Dip Galvanized Steel Wire

by Tata Wiron Steel wire manufacturer

Hot-dip galvanized steel wire is ideal for corrosive or outdoor applications where corrosion resistance is required. It has better corrosion resistance because the zinc layer is typically 5-10 times thicker. The hot-dip galvanized wire gets its name from the process it is made. The term "galvanized" indicates to the end-user that some type of anti-corrosion coating has been applied to the steel.

What is Galvanization?

It is a manufacturing process that coats steel or iron to protect and prevent rust. There are several methods of galvanizing, but the most commonly used is hot-dip galvanizing. Galvanized steel is one of the most common steels because of its long service life, the strength and ductility of the steel, and the corrosion protection of its zinc and iron coatings. Zinc protects the base metal by creating a barrier against corrosive elements, and the sacrificial properties of this coating make it a durable, high-performance steel product.

What is Hot-Dip Galvanization?

In hot-dip galvanizing, uncoated steel wire is passed through a molten bath. After a seven-step intensive cleaning process, the welding wire is passed over the cast iron. The cleaning process improves adhesion and tensile strength. The wire is then cooled to form a zinc layer. When the process is complete, the final coating is smooth, non-drip, and glossy Ideal for architectural or other applications with valuable aesthetic properties.

Advantages of Hot Dip Galvanized Steel Wire

  • Longer life span

Due to the thick zinc coating, the steel wire is more resistant to the oxidation process. This prevents it from getting rust and helps it in the long run.

  • Improved Strength

This process produces an iron-zinc alloy layer on the steel surface and a pure zinc layer on the outer surface. This alloy provides better strength and general corrosion resistance.
