All about enrolling into Primary Schools in Dubai.

by Shane Clarke Customer Relationship Manager

The government of Dubai with a view to develop the education sector in the country has made it compulsory for all the children aged more than 5 years residing in UAE to get at least the first level education. For the UAE national education is provided for free in the government run schools Dubai to all children aged up to 18 years.

Plenty of new schools, colleges and universities being developed in the UAE over the last few years mainly with a view to provide top class education to the local population of Emirati  students as well as the students from the neighboring Muslim countries in the Middle-East region. Among the new secondary schools in Dubai being developed, a large number of them are developed by the ministry of education UAE; about 88 schools are government run schools.

In the recent years, several new schools developed by the private sector. Nearly, 132 schools private schools operating in the region cater to the huge population of expat students living in the region. There are plenty US, UK, Australian, French, Indian and Pakistani schools in the region that follow different curriculum. In most of the primary schools in Dubai which are run by the government authorities, Arabic is the first language and English is the second language. There is also a general private sector of learning centers. These knowledge centers provide education to both male and female students at both primary and secondary levels. These schools also make provision for the higher education in overseas countries and the total expense of the education is paid by the government. The fees in the international schools vary according to the kind of facilities they offer. It usually ranges between 3000 Dirham to 40,000 Dirham per year.

The large number of expatriate children living in UAE usually attends the international schools mainly because it allows them to study the curriculum that is relevant in their home country. The international schools operating in the region are all privately owned and they are free to follow their own unique curriculum. The different schools follow different teaching methods and they have their approach to preparing the students to higher levels of education. If you wish to enroll your kid in any of these primary schools in Dubai, the child may have to take an entrance test. Majority of the international schools operating in the region provide high standards of education and the focus is mainly on developing the personality of the children. Some of the institutions also offer day boarding facilities where the kids can stay within school premises until they complete their education.

Although a large number of expat students pursue their education in the schools in Dubai, most of them study here only till secondary level. For pursuing degree courses or even higher level of education majority of the students fly back to their home country or any other foreign country and enroll in the universities there. Even the local Emirati students studying in secondary schools in Dubai prefer studying overseas than continuing their education in the local universities. Dubai is slowly but surely developing as a major educational hub and it’s only a matter of time when it becomes one of the most popular places to study.
