Ms. Thomas also cites some of RAINN’s more disturbing abuse statistics, including that school-aged teenage girls are 4 times more likely than the general population to be the victims of rape or sexual assault. 

Given that 93% of abusers are known to the victim but only 34% are family members, Ms. Thomas also stresses that the statistics show that schools can, sadly, be a dangerous place for your child to be the victim of forced sexual acts, inappropriate touching, explicit image sharing or another sexual crime.
