The All India Engineering Entrance Examination or the AIEEE is an entrance exam for securing an admission to the various institutes offering courses in Engineering and Architecture. The AIEEE is conducted by the CBSE and tests the candidates in the field of Physics, Chemistry and Maths. The AIEEE has a slightly different format in 2012 as it has decided to go online. About 1 lakh students would be able to take the AIEEE 2012 Exam online while the remaining candidates will go through the tried and tested pen and paper format. A large number of colleges are associated with the exam, the scores of which have a weightage even in private engineering colleges.

Come April 29, 2012 the AIEEE 2012 Exam will be held all over India in about 65 centres. According to the new format about 1 lakh students will take the exam online and can do so between May 7 and 25. This is a new format being tried out in 2012, which indicates that its success could lead to the examination going completely online in the years to come. The computer based examinations are being adopted by the Indian Institutes of Management for their exam the CAT since 2009.

The change in format of the AIEEE means that students choosing to write an online exam will have to cope-up with the new style of appearing for the exam. As an incentive a fee concession of Rupees 150 is being offered by the CBSE. To help the candidates take the exam online a mock server will be uploaded on the CBSE website for practice and an initial look into the format of the exam online.
