Advantages of Epoxy Grout

by Philip Smith Inbound Marketing Manager

Grouting is an important step to finish a tile project. The type of grout you should use will depend on the area of installation.

Cement based grout is the most common grout, and it can be used in any area in residential and commercial settings. But then, there is another grout variety – epoxy grout – which proves more effective and durable in some projects.

In this article, we talk about epoxy grout and its characteristics, and suitability –

Bomb-Proof –

Epoxy grout is often referred to as bomb proof due to their strength and durability. To some extent, it is stronger than the tiles.

So, if you have to lay floor tiles in a high traffic area in your home or office, epoxy grout could be a good choice to go with.

Zero Porosity –

Epoxy grout is non-porous. That’s also where it has an edge over traditional sand or cement based grout. Water doesn’t pass through it, reach the subfloor, and cause damages to the subfloor, underlayment, and floor tiles.

So, if you are tiling an area which has exposure to water or moisture, this should be your grout choice.

Doesn’t Fades –

While cement based grout can lose its color after a few years of application, epoxy grout does not show signs of discoloration even after a decade.

No porosity and no discoloration make epoxy a simple to clean and maintain grout option.

That means, it can be used in bathroom, kitchen, and outdoors – where staining and discoloration are concern.

Doesn’t Shrink –

Cement based grout shrinks and spreads as the weather changes every year. Therefore, it is more like to get damaged in the process.

But epoxy grout does not shrink at all. That’s why it is a more durable replacement for cementitious grout.

What’s more, you don’t have to seal epoxy grout, because it is already non-porous and water-resistant.
