Advanced Vehicle Diagnostics in 2014 & beyond!

Automotive industry is one of the most complex and dynamic industries today. The rate of innovation in this industry can only be compared to that in the consumer electronics industry. The cars today come spruced up with a lot of exciting and innovative features that enhance safety, comfort and the driving experience as a whole. However, it also means that the vehicle network as well as the fault scenarios are more complex and the diagnosis methodology has to be smarter and more comprehensive than ever before.

The modern diagnostics standards – ISO 22901-1 (ODX), ISO 13209 (OTX) and ISO 22900 are the key to address this challenge of enhanced diagnosis. With OEMs in Europe (especially Germany) having already adopted these standards, the OEMs from other established markets like USA and Japan as well as emerging markets like China and India are now starting to evaluate them. As we start 2014 we see growing demand and interest from global OEMs to adopt and embed technology built on these standards, and KPIT is well positioned to.

To its customers, KPIT brings in over a decade of experience and extensive expertise in the area of standard-based Diagnostics. KPIT has established itself in the German automotive market through the high end In2Soft diagnostic tool-chain catering to a large section of OEMs and Tier1s. Based out of Munich in Germany, KPIT’s diagnostics practice has been growing rapidly with strong footprints in North America, India and Japan.

KPIT’s advanced off-the-shelf tool-chain called “In2Soft Diagnostic Tools” along with custom-built solutions like “Integrated Diagnostic Environment”, “Remote Diagnostics” and “Cloud based solutions” are built on these standards and are aligned to the latest technology trends. Through these tool-chain and solutions, KPIT supports OEMs and Tier1s across the entire diagnostic life-cycle covering Engineering, Production and After sales stages. In the process, KPIT addresses critical challenges of lowering warranty costs, efficient variant handling and better software part management. All this eventually translates into car-makers being operationally more efficient and offering high-end service to the end-consumer, thereby creating a brand differentiator for them.

Today, KPIT’s diagnostic experts are contributors to various ASAM work-groups (e.g. MCD-2D and MCD-3D work-groups) that define these standards helping the OEMs worldwide to migrate towards “Standardized or Structured” diagnostics.

Thus, as 2014 unfolds, we are well prepared for the newer challenges and opportunities that the industry will present. We are confident that we will continue to help more and more vehicle manufacturers get maximum value from KPIT through a highly advanced and futuristic diagnostic process.
