Abnormal noise at gear chamber end of diesel engine

When the diesel engine of generator set is working, sometimes it makes an abnormal noise at the end of the gear chamber, and the noise increases with the increase of the speed, which is the abnormal noise of the timing gear chamber.

(1) Reasons

① The backlash of each transmission gear is too large.

② The backlash of the new gear is too small.

③ The gear is damaged.

④ Loose set screws.

(2) Diagnosis and treatment

① Auscultation can be resisted in the gear room with the help of a metal rod.

② When the engine is running at a low speed, there is a "clattering" sound. When the engine is slightly turned on the accelerator, you can hear a "clattering" sound at the moment when the speed changes, which means that the backlash is too large and there is a collision sound. The backlash should be adjusted.

③ If the newly installed gear makes a "woo" sound during operation, the higher the speed is, the greater the sound is, indicating that the clearance is too small, it must be readjusted. If the sound is not too loud, it can not be adjusted, but it can not be operated at high speed at the initial stage of use, so as to avoid damage to the gear.

④ When the engine of generator set is running at a high idle speed, there is an uneven "clattering" sound. If the noise becomes disorderly when the engine is running at a high idle speed, the gear is damaged. The gear cover shall be removed for observation and replacement.

⑤ When running at medium speed or above, the noise is disorderly and strong, accompanied by vibration. When the speed is reduced, there will be a crash sound, and then it disappears. It can be considered that the fastening nut or bolt is loose, and it should be fastened in time.

When we find some abnormal noise at diesel generating sets, we should check and resolve in time.
