A Seriously Good Band Called MiLarkey

Alternative rock is a genre of rock that emerged in the late 80s and by the 90s became hugely popular. According to Wikipedia, "alternative refers to the genre's distinction from mainstream or commercial rock or pop music. The term's original meaning was broader, referring to a generation of musicians unified by their collective debt to either the musical style or simply the independent, 'do it yourself' ethos of punk rock, which in the late 1970s laid the groundwork for alternative music."

Mention names like Pearl Jam, Radiohead, Foo Fighters and of course Coldplay, and most people will instantly recognize them as famous alternative bands. The good news is that there are many talented, unknown, alternative bands emerging today. Because of faster speeds of the internet and the growth in technology it has made it so much easier for bands to get their music out and connect with music fans.

One such band is miLarkey. miLarKey is a talented band from London ready and willing to share their music with the world. A combination of keyboards, drums and swaggering guitars are used to please their audience. Although, the lineup has gone through several changes over the years, the essence of the band has remained the same. miLarKey's sound continues to be a hybrid of rock, punk and electronica.

Why the name miLarkey, you might ask? Founder and lead singer Christian Gaffney states he has always liked the word malarky and it's meaning of "Tom foolery". Gaffney thought it would make a good band name when he formed the group back in 2006. The word is purposely spelled incorrectly to make the word the band's own. Interestingly, "Merriam Webster. notes that 'malarkey' was one of their top lookups overnight and defines the word as "foolish talk". With the path that miLarkey is on, they too, may be the top lookup overnight.

miLarKey admits to having a lot to say and clarifies that their songs are all written and performed from the heart - always with passion and raw energy.

miLarKey has recently released their album called "Gave Them an Inch & They Took the Universe". During a Q and A session with mySoundMusic, Gaffney told me their favorite songs to perform are "Never Get You Back Again", "Drama Queen", and "Yaw Way". Fans, however, seem to be digging "A Petite Problem" and "Web Stalker", as well.
