A Real Photographer Explains Why Hiring A Professional To Capture Your Wedding

by Rohit Bansal Blogger

Wedding photographs are something that tells a story about a couple’s most important day over and over. The clicks that’ll be taken by your wedding photographers will be a way for you to travel back in time and give a chance to relive all the beautiful moments together.

Wedding photography is one of the most important things to decide upon for your wedding day and hiring a professional photographer with an amazing portfolio of previous work is really essential.

There will be many friends who’ll suddenly come forward before your wedding saying, “I would love to capture it”; the proposal will be very inviting for you too as you’ll always be looking to spend as little as possible when planning your wedding. But the thing here is that you’ll be risking your entire wedding by opting to choose an amateur friend with a good camera over a qualified professional.

Recently, I got in contact with one of the well-established top wedding photographers in Pune who wanted me to educate people about why hiring a professional as a wedding photographer is the best choice. Talking to her for a while, I am quite that she knows her stuff, so let’s start with learning a bit from her, shall we?!

A “Nice” Camera Rig Doesn’t Make Your Friend A Good Photographer

The first thing she told me was that she has to deal with various brides who are confused in deciding between hiring her or a friend with a camera. She has to educate them every time about the horrors hiring an incompetent photographer to capture the wedding can bring. She made it quite clear, that she doesn’t just do that because of the risk of losing the business but to stop them from making a huge mistake.

The way she put forward her argument was quite hilarious for me too, she said, “will you be asking the friend with “nice” pots to take care of catering at your wedding?” I literally laughed for a long time after hearing that, but this point really made things clear for me, and I think will make it clear for you too.

A Professional Doesn’t Just Rely On A Camera And Lenses

“Having just a nice camera and the knowledge of using it, is not enough to capture a grand event like a wedding on your own”, she said. The professionals tend to carry a lot of instrument besides the camera like flashes, strobe lights, light modifiers, video lights etc, that help them capture each and every frame perfectly. He should aware of all latest wedding photography trends.

She also told me that the most important thing in photography is the lights and the knowledge of the various gadgets about how and when to use it is something that comes only from experience.

A Photographer Knows How To Pose You To Capture Your Best Self

Every photographer studies about poses and understands what pose will really look great on a particular person. According to her, “One of the underestimated and underappreciated perks that come with hiring a professional photographer is their suggestions about poses throughout the day that captures you in the best light”. This really helps you to look perfect in every frame they capture.

No bride or groom wants their wedding images with their “friend squad” to look like the images from just another night out.

Every Photographer Comes Prepared For The Worst-Case Scenario

A good and experienced photographer always comes in all-prepared for the worst at any event they are going to capture. She really made it a strong point here by saying, “A photographer keeps check of the insurance for the equipment, have back-up camera and lenses, keep images safe with multiple fail-safes.”

Just imagination of being stranded without any of your wedding photographs can be horrific, and there are some unfortunate things like power cut, camera malfunctioning, or accidental damage by a guest that can happen. Of course, it’s not an often occurrence but there’s no guarantee that it’ll not happen, so coming prepared always helps.

These were few of the points that the photographer I came in contact with, while I was in Pune, made while explaining the importance of hiring a professional photographer. I believe it is important to reiterate that working with a friend can really put a strain in the relationship. Your friend might mean well but has no idea how big the event is and how important it is for you.

So it is always better for you to hire a professional photographer to capture your entire wedding and also allow your friend to take some images they like, you’ll get the goodness of both and your friend will also be able to enjoy your wedding.
