by Toby B. Jackson How to Prepare Your RV for Storage

Saunas have long been a popular instrument in the health and wellness industry. They are a staple item in gyms and spas, and people even have them installed in their homes because of their many wonderful benefits.

Saunas of days of old used the scientific process of conduction and convection in order to heat create heat and this heat that was created, in turn, heated the body. Today, there is a new type of sauna on the market that uses a different approach to heating; the infrared sauna. This type of sauna is gaining in popularity and is noted for providing more benefits than a traditional sauna. To learn more about infrared saunas, please continue reading.

What is an Infrared Sauna

As the name suggests, an infrared sauna relies on infrared heaters in order to heat the body. These heaters produce an infrared light, which the person sitting in the sauna experiences as radiant heat. This type of heat is absorbed through the surface of the skin more easily than the heat that is produced by a traditional sauna. The result of this type of heating provides greater benefits for the body.

The Benefit of an Infrared Sauna

There are several benefits to using an infrared sauna. Of course, there have always been benefits associated with the use of traditional saunas, but these advantages are far greater in an infrared sauna. Are you wondering what these benefits are? Here is a look at just a handful of them:

Reduce Toxins: Infrared saunas help to reduce the level of toxins within the body. Sitting in the heat that is produced by a sauna increase the amount of perspiration that a person puts out. This increase perspiration helps to expel toxins that are held within the body through the skin. Believe it or not, sweating is actually beneficial to the body because it does help to naturally omit toxins. Since a sauna increases the amount a person sweats, greater toxins are omitted through the skin. This is beneficial for all people, especially for those who have difficult sweating on their own.

Eases Joint Pain: The infrared heat that is produced by these saunas is not only penetrated through the skin, but it is also penetrated through the tissues, muscles, joints and ligaments. As such, people who experience pain in these parts of the body experience a sense of relief from this pain. Those who suffer from arthritis, strains and sprains and even fibromyalgia can benefit from the pain reduction that an infrared sauna can provide. In fact, the pain reducing benefits can be so great that infrared saunas are often used as an approach for pain management by health professionals.

Weight Loss: Imagine being able to lose weight just by sitting in a sauna. Well, when you sit in a infrared sauna, this is exactly what you can do. Studies that have been conducted to determine the effects of infrared sauna use have found that they can actually help the body burn up to 600 calories. How does this happen? As the heat that is produced in a sauna heats up the body, the body naturally works to cool itself. As the body works to cool itself, the heart rate goes up, as does the metabolic rate, which enables the body to burn calories. Yes, you can actually burn calories while you are laying back and relaxing in a sauna.

Lowers Blood Pressure: When the body is heated, the heart naturally pumps faster in order to help the body cool itself. As the heart pumps faster, circulation increases, and the effect of this is lowered blood pressure.

Better Circulation: When the muscles of the body are heated, the blood that flows through them is increases. Just like running, lifting weights or any other type of exercise helps to get the blood pumping, so too, does sitting in a sauna. As the blood flow increases, it moves easier through the body, which helps to increase circulation throughout the muscles, as well as all of the systems of the body.

Increased Rate of Healing: If you have a wound on the skin, an infrared sauna can actually help to speed up the healing process of that wound. Infrared heat has been linked to increased cell regeneration. This increased cell regeneration is what is needed to heal wounds, so it makes sense that sitting in an infrared sauna can help to boost healing time.

Relaxation: Since a sauna helps to increase blood flow and loosens the joints and muscles, it is a fantastic way to induce relaxation. Sitting in an infrared sauna for just 10 minutes can bring about a heightened sense of relation.

There is no denying the powerful effects of an infrared sauna. Try one out and experience these benefits yourself.
