A buyer can cancel his dealership and return his car in 30 days

by Andrew Richardson allenstewart

Buying a car is an effortless job compared to canceling a car dealership contract. Nowadays, dealers play tricks so that you don’t get out of the dealership contract. If you’ve found your car defective or don’t like it after using it, you can break the deal. It would help if you educated yourself with the protocols of how you can go off the track.

Thankfully, there are some ways through which you can back out from your deal:

A. Can I return my car to the dealer within 30 days? – Well, yes, you can. You can walk away from your deal in 30 days if you’re not satisfied with your car. If the dealer is required to register the car in your name and title, he must give it 30 days. You can cancel your purchase if you owe any money to your dealer.

B. If your car is a ‘lemon’ – A Lemon Law states that your car shows defectiveness in a few days of your buy. You take it for servicing for four times test in 12 months or twice for safety hazard test. And yet, it does not get fixed; your car is called to be a ‘lemon.’ Hence, your dealer has to give you a full refund or exchange your car.

C. Cooling-off period – As the question states, can a buyer cancel a car dealership contract? Yes, they can. After purchasing a car, there is the ‘cooling-off period.’ A cooling-off period is a rule where you get three days to cancel your deal and return the car, getting a full refund. This rule exists as many dealership contracts do not contain a return and refund policy.

Hence, once you sign the contract, you still get three days to return your buy and get the amount back as paid.

D. Trade-in sale – It rarely happens that a dealership contract is broken. It may happen that you have bought a new vehicle by trading your old vehicle, and now you want to return your new vehicle. It becomes a little stressful to deal with such a case.

In this case, if you break the contract in 10 days, you will get a full refund or exchange your old vehicle for a new one. If the dealer sold your trade-in, you must get an equal amount as per your trade-in value.

To wind it up:

Can I cancel my car dealership? Can I return my car to a dealer in 30 days? All these questions end up with a yes. You can do it only if you are well aware of your contract and the purchase that you’ve made. A dealer can defraud you, but you must educate yourself on the law and protocols before buying a car.
