9 STEM-Promoting Outfit Ideas For Your Kids

by Aaron Smith Content Strategist

There’s nothing more heartwarming than seeing your child’s eyes light up with curiosity and enthusiasm for science. Imagine them playing with dinosaurs, creating colorful slime concoctions, or even simulating a mini volcanic eruption and then creating a huge mess afterward –  what memories!

What more would the effect be if they wore STEM-promoting outfits that could further develop their love for science? Here are some outfit ideas to nurture the inner scientists within your kids!

1. Clothing With Science-Themed Patterns

Today, there are many types of prints for clothing – you’ll see patterns of planets, weather elements, dinosaurs, DNA and atomic structures, and many more printed especially on children’s clothing. Get your kid a set of science pattern shoes and a robot-patterned button-down shirt, and your science lover will surely love it.

2. Math Lover Outfit

If your kid is a math enthusiast, you can get him shirts with prints of math equations. A shirt could have a print of a simple ‘1 + 2 + 3 = 6’ which could have your child (and other people’s children) solve the equation on their heads whenever they see the equation.

Another option would be to get your child a shirt that has a print of a mathematical table that they can study as they look at it. Multiplication tables would be a good design for this. For bigger kids, periodic tables would be very helpful, as long as they don’t wear them during their chemistry exams.

3. Lab-Style Eyeglasses

If your child wears eyeglasses, you can get them frames that would make him look like a scientist. It doesn’t have to be the actual lab glass design that may be awkward to wear in public. It could be the same frame from their favorite science cartoon character or a pair of round eyeglasses to achieve that cute scientific look.

4. Prints Of Cartoon Scientist Characters On T-Shirts

Speaking of cartoon characters, another is getting your kids clothes with prints of their favorite science cartoon characters. It could be a print of Dexter from Dexter’s Laboratory, Rick from Rick and Morty, Dr. Doofenshmirtz from Phineas and Ferb, or Professor Utonium from Power Puff Girls.

Choosing the right clothes for kids could be tough, but trust us, simple and comfortable is one of your best options. A T-shirt with the print of these cartoon scientists could also spark a fun science conversation with their friends and classmates, especially when they also watch and love that show.

5. Smart Accessories For Techy Kids

For techy kids, a fitness tracker smartwatch would be a great addition to their outfits. Letting your child have one promotes their health, as most of these can track your child’s step count, heart rate, and other fitness information that can help make your child more aware of his health.

6. 3D Statement Backpacks

If you want to level up your child’s outfit, a 3D backpack shaped like science elements could make your child more interested in science (and stand out from the crowd!). Some 3D backpacks come in the shape of robots, sharks, and dinosaurs. You can also opt to let your child have a structured astronaut bag if they’re excited about space.

7. Metallic Clothing

Another thing that space-lover kids might like is anything metallic. Pair your child’s outfit with metallic accent clothing, such as holographic jackets and metallic skater skirts. You can even spice it up with a glitter alien headband to complete the look. Your kids will feel like they came from the future when they wear these.

8. Galaxy Print Clothing

If metallics are too eye-catching for you and your kids’ taste, galaxy prints offer a more subtle science-y look. These prints are very versatile and can be seen in different kinds of clothing – with casual T-shirts, formal kids’ dresses, and canvas sneakers to name a few.

9. Clothing Infused With Technology

Innovations are now everywhere, and the fashion industry is no exception for that. There are now clothes that are infused with technology, such as origami clothes that grow with your child. This type of clothing works like an accordion, where it can expand and shrink depending on your child’s height. Waterproof and dry-fit clothing are also good options.

As they wear these, your child may try to imitate how the mechanism works, or even conduct little experiments on clothing technology!

Nurture Your Kids’ Love For STEM With These Outfits

Once you see that your child is passionate about something, you want to encourage their passion to help unleash their potential. As crazy as it may sound, clothing can actually help promote your child’s love for science. So, provide your child with STEM-promoting outfits today to help them develop a natural sense of wonder about the world around them.
