8 Tips For Finding the Perfect Vacation Rental

by Pathlie Lee Business consultant

It’s time to find time to recharge and relax. If you’re planning a trip, and you want more out of the experience than spending time in a soulless hotel room, here’s how to pick the perfect rental vacation property.

Who's coming?

Make up a list of everyone who’s coming on the trip with you. Once you have a final headcount, you can start planning. Start checking out vacation rentals that offer more than enough room for everyone. Don’t try to make do with cramped quarters. More space can mean more fun for you and your family, especially if you have plenty of luggage with you.

Know what you need

Do you want the property to be near the beach or shops? Do you want the rental to be in a central location or somewhere a bit far from the busy center? Do you want something luxe or homey? Decide before you start looking for vacation rentals.

Think about your itinerary

It’s easier to find the right rental when you have narrowed down your destination. Talk about the must-see sights and create a list that’s going to make everybody happy. A general itinerary will tell you where it’s best to stay, Simply Awesome Trips says. You’ll want to pick one that’s going to be accessible to most of the spots you want to visit.

Research

The worst nightmare is picking a rental that looks nothing like the ad photos. You’ll want to research on the property before you commit to one. If you can, try to check it with the Google Street view, Parents says, just to get a better sense of your prospective vacation home.

Decide on your dates

One of the first things you’ll need to know are the actual dates for the trip. That’s going to help eliminate other options that may already be closed off on those days. Just make sure you book early, though. If you wait until you’re just a few weeks away from your trip dates, then you may lose your chance of booking the home.

Read reviews

One way to find out more about the property is to read feedback from other guests. Scroll through their comments. Did they like their stay? What kind of problems did they encounter? These reviews can provide meaningful insight into the property and tell you much of what you can expect when you book the rental.

Check for additional fees

Plenty of rental properties may charge extra for cleaning duties, booking reservation and more. Expect it and be ready for them. Read through the policy, too, so you’ll know the rules and can avoid extra charges when you can.

Ask before you bring your pet

Some rentals don’t allow for pets. Check on this detail beforehand to know if you may need to leave your furry babies at home or find an alternative arrangement. Some homes may allow for pets but expect to be billed for extra charges.

These tips don’t cover everything but they should be enough to get you started on finding the perfect rental property.
