6 Ways Simple Ways to Gain Privacy in your Dorm Room

by Steven Williams Cleaning services specialist

Dorm rooms aren’t famous for the privacy that they provide. However there are ways to get some privacy in a dorm room.

   1. Don’t bring too much stuff with you - the fewer items you bring with you the less your   roommate will learn about your personality, interests and habits. Also by leaving some of your belongings behind, you will be able to part with your past and begin building a new future.

2. Ask for a single room - some colleges offer single dorm rooms. So ask the college administration if you can get accommodated in such a room. This way you will have all the privacy in the world but your memories from college won’t be as fun as the ones that you could have shared with your roomies.

3. Do not think that sharing a room with a friend is a good thing- lots of freshmen make the common mistake of living with a childhood friend who is going to the same college. The thing that these students don’t realize is that living with a friend can be much harder than living with a total stranger because friends believe that they can do anything and get away with it because their roommate is their friend.

4. Balance between shared and individual interests - you must give your roommate space to follow his personal interests and thus you could request the same in return. However from time to time you can spend time together and practice or follow your shared interests. Thus you will create a strong bond without suffocating each other.

5. Share the responsibilities in a smart manner - most roommates make the common mistake of cleaning the dorm room together. A much more convenient approach will be to agree upon taking turns and thus benefit from having some personal time on your hands. Another option is to hire a cleaner in Highgate so that you both can devote your free time on your favorite hobbies. You can find the best cleaners in Highgate by reading the cleaning section in the yellow pages.

6. Draft some rules - sit down with your roommate and draft some rules which both of you must follow. For example you can assign two studying days in which none of you has the right to receive guests. Also you can decide that on the Saturdays the room will be exclusively used by you and on the Sundays – by your roomie.
