6 Types Of Essential Medical Supplies
by Derrick Corea Technosoft Innovations, IncSometimes, someone invents a new piece, equipment or device of a need.
Other times, a manufacturer is updated and an existing medical product development is
improved. Either way, the development of new supplies seems to grow
exponentially each year, as do the other categories of technology that we know
(computers, tablets, mobile phones). Here are 9 commonly recognized categories
of medical equipment.
1. Diagnosis
The tools used to measure health conditions are known as
diagnostic medical equipment. This type of equipment basically takes a
biological or chemical measurement that is recorded and used for diagnosis, or
to follow the therapeutic progress. Sphygmomanometers (record blood pressure),
ophthalmoscopes (used in eye exams), and otoscopes (which allow a doctor to assess
the health of the outer and middle ear) are some diagnostic tools that are
often used in the wards of examination, for example.
2. Personal Care
Personal care devices, sometimes referred to as "home
care" or home care, are devices that the patient uses in their daily life
at home. These products do not require a doctor present for their use. Sound
amplifying hearing aids, devices for managing diabetes, are examples of
self-care equipment.
3. Surgical
Surgical supplies and equipment may include the stainless
steel tools that doctors use in surgery. Supplies used in surgery also include
disposable items that they use for personal protection from the infection, such
as caps, gowns, gloves and glasses, as well as gauze and curtains used to keep
the patient clean and safe. Surgical supplies, in fact, can be a big category,
that many clinics and hospitals usually have their own staff of Operations
Room, Purchasing and Material Management.
4. Durable Medical Equipment
Durable medical equipment includes various types of
walking aids, transfer equipment, bathroom safety and wheelchairs. As the name
implies, this category must be manufactured and tested to be
"durable" since patients who use these equipment depend on it to keep
them safe and comfortable.
5. Medical Furniture
Medical furniture is the necessary furniture to set up an
office or clinic, this category is composed of examination table, simple
showcase, cabinet, rotating bench, trash can, among others. To set up your own
medical office, you first need a physical space on the street, preferably
medical furniture, surgical medical equipment and supplies, permits and
licenses for health care.
6. Emergency And Trauma
Emergency services must be prepared with a broad supply of
diagnostic and testing tools, wound care supplies, respiratory therapy
equipment, minor procedure kits, and personal protective equipment. In other
words, they have to be equipped like a mini hospital inside their Emergency
Department.
