5 ways to Identify Improper Windshield Installation

by Deepika Singh Writer
Windshield replacement can be a bothersome task for many people but once you see signs of damage in your car windshield, it is imperative that you get it replaced immediately. For those who have recently got their car windshield replaced, it is important to know whether the job was done properly or not. At times, carelessness and poor techniques result in faulty windshield installation. This can result in more serious problems later. To avoid the situation, here we have listed four tricks to identify a faulty/defective windshield installation:

1. The frame of the window contains adhesive – an easy way to spot a faulty windshield installation is to check if it still has adhesive on it. This adhesive is generally from the old window seal. If you have got the replacement done from a reputable windshield company, they will make sure that the adhesive is completely removed from the window seal. If, however, you see the old adhesion after bringing back your car from the service centre, it is a sign that the new windshield installation is not done properly.

2. The new windshield does not fit in properly – once the installation is done, you must make sure that the windshield fits perfectly into the car’s frame. If you notice that the windshield flush does not fit without adjustment, it means that a wrong windshield is installed. The only way to get it corrected is to take your car to the service centre and get the windshield checked or else you’ll have to pay the car front glass price again. You obviously don’t want to do that so make sure that the windshield glass is authentic and designed for your car only.

3. You see water leaks around the edges – this is a clear sign that the seal around the glass is inadequate. If you see water dripping through the edges, it is an indication of weak or non-existent. This can pose dangers later, so it is advised that you get it fixed as soon as you can.

4. You notice a messy moulding around the frame – another way to know if the windshield installation is botched or not is to check the moulding around the frame. If you choose an experienced professional for windshield replacement of your car, the moulding will be clean. But if the moulding is not in line with the frame and is bumpy, it is a clear sign of a faulty installation. You must then take your car to the service centre and get the moulding fixed immediately. Do note that experienced professionals will always keep this aspect in mind and will ensure that the moulding is clean and professional-looking.

5. You see water leaks around the edges – this is a clear sign that the seal around the glass is inadequate. If you see water dripping through the edges, it is an indication of weak or non-existent. This can pose dangers later, so it is advised that you get it fixed as soon as you can.
