5 Myths about Freelancing

by Shawn Deny Internet Marketing Manager

You must have a lot of stories about freelancing like it is so easy because you get to be your own boss, you can take a break whenever you want to, you can work in your night suit all day long, etc. All those people, who are 9 to 5 office works, think that freelancing is free from all hassles and is a piece of cake. Here are 5 famous myths about freelancing.

Myth #1: Freelancing is like walk in a park!

People think that freelancing career is nothing like a 9 to 5 job and is very less stressful. Keeping the project description of hundreds of projects in mind, answering countless clients’ emails, making sure you get paid on time, managing projects according very specific client’s requirements, working till midnight – sounds pretty much stressful, doesn’t it? Well that is what a freelancer has to go through every day.

Myth #2: Freelancers can take vacations anytime they like

There is a false apprehension that freelancers can take vacations anytime while managing their work along with it. Well, for doing this it is necessary to have an internet connection wherever you go and also that you take time out from your enjoyment to work and attend to the urgent requests of the clients. For freelancers, taking vacations is like ignoring clients, which is synonymous to losing potential clients; so even on vacations, freelancers have to work no matter what.

Myth #3: Freelancing is the ticket to getting rich quick

Freelancers have to sometimes work day and night in order to make the ends meet. There are a lot more things involved in freelancing like risks, referrals, meeting clients’ expectations, finding new projects all the time, etc. In addition to this, you have to market yourself to the right niche and build a strong profile in order to convince clients to hire you. In short, freelancing requires hard work and money just doesn’t magically flow with a swing of a wand.

Myth #4: It is easy without having a boss pushing you around

It’s true that freelancers are their own bosses, but that is more of a disadvantage. Having the fear of reporting your daily progress to your boss is somewhat a motivation for working hard and completing assignments at hand on time. With no one to push around, freelancers get the chance to slack off and take breaks, which ruins their time management and work performance.

Myth #5: Freelancers must possess stellar self-marketing skills

People think that having quintessential self-marketing skills is a must for freelancers to promote their skill set over the internet and if they don’t, they won’t get hired enough. Well that was true back in the days, but now there are many companies, like CynaTech, which promote freelancers and help them find freelancing jobs online with almost nothing in return.
