4 Home Flooring Trends in 2018 to Take Inspiration From

by Shruti Sharma Content Curator

Flooring is the foundation of your home, literally and figuratively. Before you choose the type of flooring, ensure that the rest of your décor is in line that that sensibility and the overall look and feel of your home, is consistent. Additionally, be confident of your choices, to ensure you don’t have to redo your flat in Goregaon or Mumbai, every few years. Here are a few ideas that will help you choose the right flooring for your home:

1.     Bamboo

Bamboo is an extremely durable and sturdy material and with new techniques like strand weaving, which use its inner fibers—the material is made twice as strong as its initial state. Furthermore, technology has allowed us to virtually install any kind of pattern to bamboo; the conventional thin-banded styles are now in competition with wide-plank styles, allowing you to attain a look of classic hardwood, which is perfect for the common areas of your home.

2.     Vinyl

Vinyl is often regarded as cheap flooring used for spaces for non-personal use with high-footfall areas. However, more recently, innovations in the material have given it a look that resembles hardwood or even stone without any compromise on its durability. Trust us when we say that you will have difficulty telling the difference between vinyl and wood. Its properties make it perfect for kitchens where moisture is unavoidable, without you having to compromise on its look. It can even be considered for the laundry room and for bathrooms since its texture reduces the chance of slipping.

3.     Concrete

Concrete floors have expanded their horizon from simply functional to elegant and sleek. The durability of the material is its prime property and it is available in almost any colour along with finishes and textures that are hard to ignore. It is perfect for old buildings where the floors are not as strong as they were when the house was built. However,  keep the room in mind, as it is a relatively hard material; not comfortable for bedrooms and dining rooms.

4.    Carpeting

If prints are on your mind, it’s time to carpet your floors. Carpets are extremely soft and ideal for places with slightly cooler climates. Today, with innovations in fiber, carpets are even softer and much more durable.

There are a plethora of other surfaces, materials and textures available for you to furnish your flooring—this ranges from cork and marble, to porcelain and glass. Whether you’re furnishing a new property in Goregaon or an existing home in Kandivali—choose wisely because flooring can make all the difference!
