4 Exercise Hacks for Getting a Fitter Body After 40

by Aaron Smith Content Strategist

If you’re in your 40s, you know that exercising isn’t as easy as it used to be. Don't worry yourself though, I have just the right hacks to help keep you fit so that you can get the most out of every workout and enjoy the benefits of regular exercise at any age.

Water Aerobics

In water aerobics, gravity does not work against you. Plus, water resistance can work to strengthen the cardiovascular system. With its variety of low-impact movements that don't stress joints, water aerobics is an ideal form of exercise that is easy on joints and it doesn't require a gym membership.

Try Pilates

One exercise method you might want to try is Pilates. Pilates exercises are specifically designed to tone your muscles and strengthen your core without throwing your body out of alignment. They're also low-impact, which is important if you have joint problems like arthritis. These exercises also have the added benefit of improving flexibility and agility, which can help you with balance in general as you age.

Add Fitness into your Daily Routine

In addition to the above exercise hacks, you can also find various ways to add fitness into your daily routine. For example, take the stairs at work instead of taking the elevator, take regular walks during your lunch break, or play games with your kids that require you to run around the yard like ultimate frisbee or four square. This way, you’re still fitting in exercise throughout your day.

Get a Personal Trainer

While getting a personal trainer may not necessarily be a hack, having one that is able to assess and create an exercise program specifically for you is a game changer. No matter how old you are, it’s never too late to get healthier. If you are near Los Angeles, check out Paradiso Crossfit. They work with you to make your goals achievable no matter where you are on your fitness journey.
