3 Tips for Applying Makeup on Someone

by Kevin Smith Author

As you grow up, applying makeup on your face becomes a habit. In a way, it turns into a second nature that you may not need a mirror at times. After all, you know your eyes, lips, and brows more than anyone else.

That said, when you’re tasked to apply makeup on someone else's face, it can get a bit tricky. You're suddenly working with different angles and facial features you're not used to. To help you out, here are some awesome tips that can turn you into a pro.

Make Sure the Face Is Clean

No matter who you're working with, always ensure that their face is clean and dry before you start. This lets you work smoothly. If you don't have a full spread of toners, cleansers, and moisturizers, don't worry; a bunch of makeup remover wipes will do.

Take note, you should also wash your hands or at least apply sanitizer before handling any product. This way, you won't accidentally spread any germs on your client’s face.

It's Alright to Mess Up

This happens to everyone, so don't worry. What makes someone good at makeup is how they fix a mistake. To give you an idea, if your hands suddenly twitched while applying eyeliner, use a concealer to hide the imperfections. You can layer it a few more times to get rid of dark edges. You can also blend it to make it less obvious.

Pull the Skin to Prevent Creasing

Another problem when applying above or below the eye is when the product starts to crease. To avoid this, gently pull the skin taut beforehand. Although you don't want to tug too hard, you need to create a bit of tension.

Usually, when you're applying makeup under the eye, place a finger on the cheek, and then gently pull down. The same goes when you're working on the top part, but this time, your finger should be on the eyebrow.

This is just a quick rundown of what you should do when working on someone else's face. It can be challenging, but once you see the final product, it's satisfying to know you did your best. For those who want to pursue this kind of career, it's highly recommended to take makeup classes for beginners in St. Petersburg, FL, first. This will give you a grasp of what else you need to learn.
