by Fitfoodies Mantra fitfoodies
We have all heard of some amazing health benefits that apple cider vinegar offers us, but like almost everything on this planet, even apple cider vinegar in excess can cause a lot of issues in your body. Smaller amounts of Apple Cider Vinegar is truly beneficial for one’s health, but here we would like to throw light on the side effects that one might face upon excessive exposure to this food item.

Erosion of Tooth Enamel

It has been found that any kind of acidic food tends to damage the tooth enamel to a large extent. Same is the case with Apple Cider Vinegar. Even though this fact is most of the time only true for soft drinks and fruit juices, it has also been found that the acetic acid present in vinegar also causes damage to tooth enamel!

When a lab test was conducted comparing the erosion rate of teeth enamel in different types of vinegar with different pH levels, it was found that upto 20% loss of minerals from the teeth. But even though this test was done in a laboratory, the buffering effect of saliva was not taken into account. Nevertheless, it does not mean that apple cider vinegar does not cause any damage to tooth enamel as a large amount of vinegar can very well damage the tooth enamel!

Untimely Emptying of Waste

Though apple cider vinegar has been known to prevent spikes in the blood sugar level because it reduces the rate at which food is absorbed by the body, this process can also prove to be counter-productive as it may end up worsening symptoms of gastroparesis, a condition that is faced by people suffering from type 1 diabetes.
Despite the fact that our nutritionist in Delhi NCR stands by the amazing health benefits of apple cider vinegar, she also agrees that the same thing can cause many health issues when had in excess. Since gastroparesis is a condition where the nerves in the stomach stop working properly, it also ends up leading to accumulation of food in the stomach for longer than necessary! This, in turn, can lead to nausea, heartburn and bloating as well!

Throat Burns

Did you know that apple cider vinegar can actually cause oesophageal burns? When research was conducted, it was found that children who tend to swallow harmful liquids by accident are more susceptible to throat burns due to the consumption of apple cider vinegar than any other food item.

And if consuming apple cider vinegar was causing throat burns in children, consuming apple cider tablets in adults too seemed to be causing burns in the oesophagus! Sounds scary right?

You don’t need to panic though! All you need to do is to remember that you should have anything in excess, be it the healthiest of things! Maintain moderation and you will be just fine!
