Psychology too will ride DU semester boat
by Hardeep Saini SEO Delhi University Faculty of Arts on Monday passed the semesterised syllabus for BA (Programme) Psychology, amid protests from a few members. The Faculty of Arts DU’s largest, comprising the language departments, Philosophy, Buddhist Studies, etc approved 11 revised syllabi on March 14.
Also on the agenda of Monday’s meeting was the approval for the English components of all courses, except BA (Hons) English Literature, and the courses from the Germanic & Romance Studies department.
However, neither English nor GRS tabled their syllabi. Teachers of both the departments have been protesting the switch to semester mode.
Meanwhile, a dissent note signed by seven members was submitted to Dean of the Faculty H S Prasad. The letter demands that the decisions of the March 14 meeting be declared null and void.
“The last meeting of the Faculty of Arts, held on March 14, was convened without the knowledge of many of its members, who, therefore, were not present at the meeting. In fact, as many as 25 colleges are not even on the list of constituent members of the FA, although they are statutorily required to be part of the FA,” the letter stated.
Udaya Kumar from the English department, as well three of the four representatives from the GRS Department Vibha Maurya and Shaswati Mazumdar were among those who signed the dissent note.
The letter also criticises the way the syllabi were tabled at the meeting, without providing sufficient time for scrutiny and debate.
