The Importance of long tail keywords.

Long tail keywords are  three or more keyword phrases that specifically target the products and services a business is marketing.  Someone searching very specific terms is considered high value. This kind of searcher converts at a significantly higher rate.  They are late in the buying cycle, having already done their research and product comparison using broader, less specific search terms.

It is important for businesses large and small to take advantage of long tail keywords when considering a typical pay per click campaign. There is another upside to the long tail keyword: they rank very well when compared to single word or double word phrases.  

Advertising with long tailed keywords get higher quality traffic and saves money.  It serves to cut down on random window shoppers and brings the determined buyer closer to the cash register.

So a bed and breakfast in the Rocky Mountains would be much better off spending money on long tail key words such as:
  • Rocky Mountain hiking trails
  • Smith family bed and breakfast
  • Rocky Mountain hotel
  • Rocky Mountain getaways
rather than
  • Rocky Mountains
  • Guided Tours
  • travel
  • hotels
Careful use of  keywords will attract better quality visitors and save money.
