One of the more interesting and special fitness programs to be released in 2010 is the Tacfit Commando program by veteran trainer Scott Sonnon.

What's striking about this fitness program is that it's not a fat loss plan nor a muscle building one. It's a functional fitness program.

What I mean by functional fitness is that the goal of this plan isn't just to make you look better by melting fat away or building more muscle mass. It does do both of these but in an indirect way. The goal of the Tacfit Commando plan is to turn you into a more physically able person.

This means that you'll have more strength, agility, flexibility, speed, recover faster from phsyical effort, and so on. As a by product, you'll also build lots of lean muscle mass (but not like a bodybuilder, more like an athlete or a marital arts fighter).

The way in which Scott Sonnon does this is by sharing with you workout routines similar to those he uses to train elite military outfits from around the world. He has worked with special forces and infantry details from various armies such as the US army, the Israeli Defense Forces, and from various European security forces.

These are guys who need to be in top physical shape and be able to perform day in and day out in extreme conditions. You don't get a chance to really rest while you're in the field. You need to be able to quickly recover from physical exertion and to perform again.

In addition, you don't have access to equipment while training in the military so all of the Tacfit Commando workouts use bodyweight only. This means that you can perform all of the exercises practically anywhere, whether you have access to a gym or not.

Now, the exercises in this program are not easy. Scott Sonnon will drive you hard. You may find some of the exercises very challenging at first as they are very different from regular gym exercises. However, you will also find that the results are quite different than those that regular gym workouts will get you as gym exercises are focused on looks and those in Tacfit are focused on ability.

If you want to become extremely fit then this program may very well be for you. However, if you're just looking to look a bit better, it may be an overkill.
