A "Professional" revival

by Odyssey360

A book and a cup of coffee ? this can make my day. Very often I have felt that as the coffee percolates the throat, the ideal snack with it is a book. I have always loved books.

College days, I feel, was wonderful. Back then, I had access to the best of the book s in our library. Any new release, I could always check in the library and if it was not available, a call from the librarian to ?Odyssey? would ensure that the book is in the ?New Arrivals? rack. But, today, away from college, I still need to satiate my thirst for books. And that is how I met Odyssey 360.com. I was more than happy to see my favorite book store online. The spirit in me is back. I can still read. Not very assured of online purchase, I still decided to give it a try and now I would be one of the frequent purchasers of Odyssey360.com.

A month back, when I was browsing through Odyssey360.com, I found one of my favorite authors in the website ?Subroto Bagchi. Having already read ?High Performance Entrepreneur? and Go, Kiss the world?, I decided to go for ?The professional? and guess what? I received an ?author ? signed? copy of the book!!! I felt the author?s presence with me all throughout the reading experience.

The third in the series of books by Subroto Bagchi, the Gardener of MindTree, this is a book filled with practical insights in making a professional out of anyone. Positioned mainly for young professionals and students, the book, I would say is an ideal guide to the corporate. The book, in its seven parts which portray characteristics like integrity, self awareness, professional qualities, managing volume and managing complexity, as the essential characteristics of a professional, can rightly be called the ?Bible of professionalism?. What I loved in the book is the ?all ? too ? practical?, simple approach where we are introduced to a variety of people including educated and uneducated professionals and their value system. A practical ?right or wrong discourse? of all the current happenings are also done in the book. Even the Satyam Saga is mentioned.

Right from the opening case of Mahadeva, who buries unclaimed bodies till the last page, you never put the book down. This is the kind of book you should definitely have a copy of. Not just for you, but for the generations to come. A very good read in simple English.

I loved the book. And, I am back to reading. Thanks to Odyssey360.com, I would always cherish this book and thanks for bringing back the spirit to read.
