Natural herbal remedy

A natural herbal remedy can be used either internally or externally. You can choose the best formulation that best works for you.

The following are natural herbal remedies that can be taken internally:

Glycerite. This is a natural herbal remedy that is an alcohol-free alternative to tincture. There are two types of glycerin: derived from animal fat and from vegetable oil. The typical glycerite dose is about 30 drops, a quarter teaspoon or half a dropperful. Glycerites should be diluted in water to prevent irritation to the mouth.

Pill. This natural herbal remedy acts slower and are often less potent than tinctures but contains no alcohol. One pill is equal to a half a cup of tea or one-sixth of an ounce of herb.

Syrup. This natural herbal is a liquid extract that is sweetened and thickened. Average dose is one tablespoon.

Tea. Typical does is one teaspoon of herb per cup, three or four times daily. Methods of preparing tea include: infusions which is made by pouring hot water over herbs. Decoctions are done by simmering herbs in water for 15 to 30 minutes. Cold infusions are prepared by soaking herbs in cold water for eight hours.

Tincture. This natural herbal remedy is a concentrated liquid form of herbal medicine. It is typical to take four doses of tincture a day.

Concentrated Liquid Extract. A natural herbal remedy which is a tincture that has most of its water and alcohol removed.

Double Extraction. This is natural herbal remedy which is done by combining the regular tincture with a second batch of herbs.

Standardized or Guaranteed Extract. This is a natural herbal remedy that is guaranteed to contain a specified quantity of the herb's main active compound.

USP Standardized. This is a natural herbal remedy that is made according to proportions set by U.S. Pharmacopoeia (USP).

Vinegars. This natural herbal remedy is prepared like tincture but the herbs are added with vinegar instead of alcohol.

Natural herbal remedies that are used externally include the following:

Aromatic waters. This is a natural herbal remedy sued to treat skin problems.
Body oil. This is a natural herbal remedy used for massage or sometimes as an alternative to some internal remedies.

Compress. This natural herbal remedy is done by soaking cloth in a strong herbal tea, diluted tincture or glycerite, essential oils or aromatic water then wrung and laid on top of skin.

Herbal Bath. This is a natural herbal remedy combining bath with herbs.

Poultice. This is a natural herbal remedy made by pounding, blending or chewing fresh plant into a sticky paste and spread on an injury and wrapped in bandage.

Salve. This is a natural herbal remedy which is a thickened herbal oil using vegetable oil such as olive oil.
