If you couldn't use google or yahoo which search engine would you use?

by No longer an active member
Are we all in the ban of google and yahoo, or is there still room for healthy competition out there?

Just trying to find out if there is any life out there among the savvy users.

Hi, Iñaki,

When you have something that works and produces all that you want - why would you look elsewhere?

It's a bit like saying "If you couldn't breathe air, what would you breathe?" Google and yahoo have worked very well to get to where they are and they have the resources to ensure they stay at the top.

Hi Old Coot,

As always your comments are welcome triggers for conversation.

What a colorful world we would live in if there were only one language, one religion, one God, one song, one way of thinking and if we only ate the original McDonald's hamburger each and every day? Or not...?

I recall someone somewhere suggesting the controversial thought that "variety was the spice of life".

And how does one know that google and yahoo work if there is no basis for comparison? And when one person says that it works for him/her, and another says it does not... who is right? I would say both of them... until someone disagrees with me :-)

Hi, Iñaki,

For a pilot, an aeroplane works. For me, it doesn't because I have forgotten how to fly and the types I flew no longer exist.

There are over 30 search engines and I have tried them all - some are very specialised and will work for those people who require that speciality - not for most people who want to discover as much as possible as quickly as possible.

I suppose I could say my van works because I drive it and it does what I want it to. If a comparison is necessary to qualify my statement that my van works, with what do I compare it? Since it is easy to see that my van works, why would anybody say it does not?

Well Inaki, a very interesting question.

We are all creatures of habit so when searching for something many automatically will type in Google.

I myself have always had the attitude that nobody or anything is indispensable. So have always been a belts and braces person so vary my search engine use.

More of you should try it you will be amazed at what the other search engines come up with.

Thank you and take care

I'm sure that most folks know that I use Search Big Daddy for nearly everything that I need to find... I hardly ever need to use Google...

Hey guys,
Has anyone tried out CUIL it is actually pronounced "COOL", one of Google's top engineers has left Google and designed this new search engine, she claims that it has millions more pages for them to sorrt info. out of. I tried it, it is a little different in how the information is displayed although it is kind of nice. It works especially well if you cold call off the internet,do to the fact the wesite is in a thumbnail, next to thier biz. breakdown. So it difinetly makes it easier to recognize wether you have viewed them or called for that manner.
