Something that would greatly benefit APSense.

by Max Merrill Jack of All Trades
I wasn't really sure which category to put this topic in, so I just put it into business news.

APSense should take the inactive people, such as the ones you refer and only put a link on their profile and not use the site, and delete the accounts. Yes, it would hurt people's downlines. But, would cut back greatly on bandwidth, storage space on servers, and not only that... would also help to tell which people are here to actually learn and use the site as it was intended.

This would get rid of all the business centers with nothing in them, the profiles that are empty with the exception of a link, and would also help the referrers to identify those who are willing to try.

This would also help in smoother running of the site. When I rate business centers, I noticed that almost 75% are completely empty with the exception of a link, IF ANYTHING. Also, you see people that come in and display nothing but links on comments to blogs. This tends to be very annoying to a lot of people. No one wants just links as comments on their articles. That isn't input, thats just spam.

Also, people who post nothing but links, and ads into comments should be kicked off the site anyways. That would help a lot of us out, that have to delete links constantly off our blogs. People who have had to do this a lot know exactly what I'm talking about.

I also think that the BEC's system (biz exchange credits) system should be implemented into blogs and articles too. In order to post a blog, You should first have to read and at least comment if not top another's blog. This would insure that everyone is doing their part on this site to ensure everyone has a fair chance so to speak.

Hi Max,

I agree we have a lot of dead wood at the moment but I also see people that joined and forgot about it coming back so I wouldnt write them off just yet.

If you have persistant offenders posting their links in comments then there are two things you can do.
The first is contact them and ask them not to do it again.

If this fails or you are certain (ie have seen ) them doing it all over the place you can go to the contact link and select abuse in the drop down and request the offender receive a warning.

Depending on the frequency of their doing it they may even lose posting rights for up to a month as one spam poster did just last week for spamming 15 posts of which 7 were in the APSense group. This was not thier first offence by the way they had received at least 2 official warnings from the owners, as well as three requests from myself not to do it.

Credits for the posting of comments in blogs would lead to a rash of one liner "thanks for the info" type comments which add no value
The same goes for topping you would have people toping things even if total trash just to clock up points.
The same goes for just reading a blog, there are always those that would just dash round opening blogs but noit staying long enough to actually read it, and if chalenged they could always "claim" to be speed readers, and no one could prove otherwise.

Yes its frustrating at times but do like I do make your posts and if they are slow in taking off dont worry as you post others then they will eventually get seen and then if the reader finds it interesting they will find your other posts when they visit your profile to find out more about you.

BJ,

As always, great feedback on the blogs. I always enjoy reading your feedback, as it's never short and never boring. You always have good input on topics, and always remember referance points in the blog itself. Much appreciated. Thanks again.

I know how to delete, I have gotten real good at it.
The ones that really make me cringe as the new contacts that I add.
It seems as soon as I accept someone as a contact I get a link to see what it is they have to offer.
Those get deleted without me even looking.
Most of the time those that send a simple thanks for adding me, I check out their ABC.
At least that is what I do.

I am chalking this up to most being NEW.
I am hoping they will take a few minutes to read what the great place is all about.
Just as in Skype, Text before calling.
In my own home, Call before stopping by. (my dishes are never done)

Hello there. Just reading through this I noticed you mentioned business centres. Being new i am not sure how to use this feature and still get confused trying to find things. Maybe that is why some of them are empty. I still need to learn a lot and maybe be here more often so that i can
Thanks this was useful :)

Hi Max,

I am afraid that I will go mostly with BJ on this one. Many people join and then use site infrequently, but dont delete themselves as they do like to have the option to use it from time to time. So the unused accounts may take up bandwidth, but frequent use of a community cannot realistically be made a criteria for maintaining membership.

I post in "phase" depending on my offline workload and the relevance of the current topics in a community. I would hate to feel obliged to post regularly.

And as you say - it would hurt people's downlines - and i am afraid we have no control of them - apart from our first line.

this is a common problem for all communities. Maybe a year inactive could set of a letter from thte owners asking if people want to continue a free membership. If it is paid - well then there is nothing to be said.

Love
Jenny

I'm not referring to the people that use it infrequently, I am talking about the people that just sign up, put a link on their profile, and never use the site again.

Max I think there are allot of beginners on the internet. Some of these people may be lurking around reading articles. Until recently the web has always been a place to remain anonymous. Change takes more time for some than others. Apsense also takes a little more time to understand than most other social networks. I am still learning the features myself. I think that Apsense is in its infancy (as far as membership goes) and eventually things will come full circle. The point is they come in thinking it is like yuwie, or myspace, etc... Then they sign up and have no idea what to do

HI Max,

I am new to Apsense and I have been getting myself familiar with all that it has to offer. I must say that this is a very good post and every ''active'' user that does not regard the time and effort and care that everyone else puts into the Network but only cares about what they are offering should really take this article into consideration.

I agree with the implimentation of the BEC's system and also think that a minimum character amount per comment would work as a deterent for persons that are only interested in posting links back to their site, blog etc and the mentioned one liners "thanks for the info" .

Regards,
Jahmarley

Max, again you are having some good ideas. I agree, do you think the admin will take your advice? Like I said before people are very selfish and just want their links added. This site could be better than facebook (for business of course) but people are looking to make money and not network with other biz owners. I get lots of ads in all my pages too.

I think something more pro-active would be sending out a notification to make sure the user understands what Apsense is all about, or even some small tidbits for people to begin participating in the site. Someone mentioned about the lack of time, which is quite a problem for many, so by making an application simple and do-able immediately, for me would be something to allow participation, if even only to check in regularly.

Hi Max,

I agree with most of your ideas, but to write them off I think it's not quite good.
Not All people in Apsense has English as their first language, like me. They want to make a long good analyzed comment but They can't. So they just make comment like, "hi Thanks", "good information" etc (Sure they will get apsense credit point too).
I think the most important now is to fight SPAM in apsense. They did it in everywhere i.e posted in comment, put a link in testimonial, chat room, etc.
I think We have to create another group with this kind of topic - FIGHTING SPAM IN APSENSE and I suggest BJ /Cindy / Dawie can lead this group.
Sorry my English not quite good but I hope you get the point
Thanks

Sam with the new spam policy in effect there is no need to create a group for it. People just simply need to report it and that will take care of the spam problem as the spammers get themselves booted off the site.

I posted the spam policy and guess what? It got spammed. It's obvious that they did not take the time to read the blog/policy but simply dumped their garbage to get points. Proof positive that they will not be around for long after Monday.

I'm just thinking like that so the new spam policy become stronger and more effective if we do fighting spam together.
Anyway I like this kind of interactive discussion thanks

We will all be fighting it together. Every comment now has a report abuse button. All we have to do is use it

Hem... well, I am one of those Late Bloomer, who just signed up, forgot about my account, until some one from my F5M team, pointed to me out how to do proper sosial networking.

Yeah, i agree with Sam that in my part of the world, english is a second language...so people who has not so fluent in this language will find it a bit difficult to communicate.

Well, maybe we could put a widget here that translate the post?

That would be So Cool... and funny too.
