What a Second Language has Done for Me

by Joey
Personally, learning a second language has changed my life in more ways than I could ever imagine.  I often reflect upon my journey about what it has done for me and thought I would give you a few things it has done for me.  I know there are a lot of non-native English speakers, so I would very much like to hear what you think.
1) Meet new people: I have met so many new people and made so many new friends simply from having shared interests with like-minded people. If it were not for the new friends I have made throughout the years, I would not have had many of the experiences that are now some of the best of my life.
2) Learn something new: I love learning new things because it gives me a sense of pride and power in a sense. Like they say "Knowledge is power." I used to think "yeah right," but now that I have gotten older, I know it is true.
3) Improve your native language skills:You might be reading this and thinking "What in the world is he talking about?" Well, the answer is simple. There are some concepts that do not exist in English that exist in Spanish, and the only way to grasp them is to improve your English skills so you can link the concepts to one another. This is mainly true if you are an advanced student. You do not really have to worry so much if you are a beginner.
4) See the world through brand new eyes:This statement was especially true for me the first time I traveled to Costa Rica. In addition to being the first I traveled to Costa Rica, it was the first time I had traveled internationally or on a plane. It was an experience I will remember for the rest of my life.
