Glass beads are made of lead-free, soda lime-type glass that contains no free silica and is preformed into round, ball shapes. They produce a far smoother and brighter finish than angular abrasives. Glass bead blasting produces a clean, bright, peened, satin finish on parts with no dimensional change. They can be reused nearly 30 times. Glass beads, which are chemically inert and environmentally friendly, are an adequate system for metal cleaning or surface finishing when used properly.
