A catchy headline or subject is the key to getting an article, blog, forum post, email or any form of marketing opened.
Second to that is the first paragraph. This will capture your readers attention and will give them a reason to read on. Generally readers don't want to hear about your product or business in the first paragraph. In fact, mentioning your business or product at all is not necessary.
Signatures and resource boxes pull more clicks from quality content than any form of Blatant Advertising.
One of my Groups - "Article Based Advertising" was created to enable in depth Articles about a particular product or business.
It is widely known that people give more credibility to editorial content than to paid advertisements.
After all anyone can claim that their own product is the best. But editorial comment suggests someone else has endorsed your product or service.

You've hit the nail on the head. We need targeted traffic. I used to think any traffic was good, but like you said, I really only want customers that are interested in what I'm selling.
As a customer myself, I get really frustrated when my search results come up with something totally different from what I'm looking for.

Couldnt have said it better myself. You do have to tailor your advertising/newsletters to the group you are sending to. Otherwise, those catchy, titles will do nothing but get you reported for spamming.

Using an article to attract a specific niche is the key.
All niche markets have a specific grouping which includes various sub categories within that niche.
Using my own experience as as an example - "Organics" could be considered a major Niche group. Within this group we can target....
- Organic Gardeners
- Organic Fruit & Vegetable Consumers
- Environmentalists
- Organic Skincare Consumers
- Allergy Sufferers

It is also worth reminding ourselves that not everyone will want our products. Therefore a punchy, specific title can also be useful in attracting those who have an interest in what you provide.
Where's the sense in using titles that promote a health topic when you are intending to sell car parts, for example.
We may get a lot of traffic, however our visitors may not be qualified to already have an interest in our particular niche.
